*sigh* I should take time at some point to find out why this makes me so unreasonably upset.
Going through old work! Might as well share. For @kilosbroadcast.bsky.social
Been rewatching Scrubs all the way through while I work, and then "Thought of You" by the Weepies came on which reminded me of Ryan Woodward and his book "Conte Animated" which is a book of Gesture work that really spoke to me early in my art career! Have some! www.scribd.com/document/506...
I think a mid major-high minor key lends itself to the mood of "conflict", literal or figurative! Artist Credits from left to right: Albert Beirstadt, Rick Berry, Sergey Kolesov, Anders Zorn, Frank E Schoonover, George Inness, Harvey Dunn, Herbert James Draper
Going deeper on this study, using traditional and contemporary refs! Study: How do major and minor keys affect mood? Credits left to right: Jeffrey C Jones, Rick Berry, Carl Brenders, Guangdong Guangzhou, Daniel Liesk, Frank E Schoonover, Jon Foster. High Major Key High Minor Key Mood- "Active"
Collected some really valuable data on my long term work cycle! Gonna do this again next month and see what the data shows! Hours can be misleading though. Actual work time is longer since I sometimes forgot to do my pomodoro timer.
Anise hyssop that I started indoors back in January put out its first flower today! (Cut it off to encourage more stalks eventually resulting in many more flowers later in the year) Anise hyssop is in the mint family with a licorice scent and flavor!
So... I find "Whaler" by Sergey Kolesov such an unreasonably compelling painting and I think I just found the most 1990s MS paint ass way to recreate it. Literally scribble and then "random" bucketfill. Does that make it less compelling to me? What!? No! Did you just hear what I described!?
Trying to explain this through the objectively better medium of boy kissing, but only led me to realize that some of my word association is not sufficient to describe the broad category! Which is good! Assumptions tested and they need refining! (Also need to fill in those last two slots)
Did some more! Hiding the eyes with harsh lighting in any fashion seems to communicate either hidden intent or hidden emotions. Again, this is after framed ink by Marcos Mateu-Mestre
Playing around with light direction and how you can use light to affect how you see the character both literally and emotionally! Kept to a neutral expression and high contrast (minor key) values to keep let the values themselves tell all of the story! Referencing Framed Ink by Marcos Mateu-Mestre
Doing some word association with different tonal keys! Basically a quick little personal association between different lighting conditions and mood! Gonna try some things with faces and different lighting scenarios next. Get all Marcos Mateu-Mestre about it!
I don't know what species of milkweed this is, so until further notice, I'm calling it-
Found a neat manipulatable wolf head model! sketchfab.com/3d-models/wo...
