This photograph, together with Electronic Abstraction 4 on display on its left, shows variations of electrical signals. To obtain these images, Laposky used an oscilloscope, a device which captures and displays electrical signals as waveforms and shows how they change over time. He manipulated the displayed wave forms and photographed the results. Laposky called these images 'Oscillons'. They are considered the first graphics generated using an electronic machine.
