Professional water nerd, recovering policy wonk, collector and connector of good humans and holder of important conversations. Hello.
I am in love. This gal is a pro-grade instrument, so takes a little more puff than I'm used to. My diaphragm is getting a work out, & it'll take time to build up the breath to do her justice. Still, she's a dream. Beautiful tone, responsive valves, & three (!) water keys for your spitty needs.
It reads more as philosophy than fiction. A stellar recommendation by the librarian, discussing age, death, memory, identity, love, friendship, and the myriad points of departure across a human life.
One of my valve guides broke. Poor old cheapie euph doesn't have replacement parts. Gotta find a genius to make one, or go for an expensive upgrade. Must admit, the upgrade is mighty tempting. A decent euphonium is also mighty expensive. 🤔
Job done. Now, according to the promise I made myself, I'm allowed to get new fish/shrimp (more drawf corys, fancy shrimp, and either more CPDs or a female betta). Not today though: that's taken all my energy.
After 3 days of being too sick to cook, I'm very proud of myself for making this nutritious mess full of garlic, chilli & lemon.
I rescued this folding ruler from the wastes of Dad's garage in the big moving clean. To Dad it's useless, being imperial measurements. To me, it's an object worth honouring.
Optics poeple, why do these balloons look so much smaller and further away in photos than they are to my eye. These were so close I could make out details in the baskets.
I'll have to try he's! The RecipeTin Eats almond chocolate cake is a go to for me. Really good, simple gluten free.
So, my peaceful solstice plans were shattered - quite literally - by someone having a mental health episode. The window bars did their job. Neighbours a few doors up, however, ended up with a psychotic stranger bleeding inside their house. Today I'm off work, waiting for the glazier.
The only unscented candles at the supermarket were a pack of 100 tea lights. I decided to lean in. Light the dark, good people. Let's be beacons against the dark. Together. The year turns. The solstice pulls us back toward the sun.
I bought myself sunflowers for the solstice. How are you showing yourself kindness and love on this darkest night / longest day?
In a delightful local tradition over many decades, people paint and repaint Frog Rock. It's a bit lurid at the moment, though I'm glad to see the tradition continue.
