Took the kids to the railway museum in Odense, noticed this piece of textbook maskirovka.
I decided to go on a trip to Odense with the kids, got this lovely old-school suite for a very reasonable price. Exactly the sort of place I can appreciate.
Spent hours last night assembling a prototype demo device, including going back and forth to the garage to cut/trim the plastic casing. Then, just as I was going to boot it up to test it at 10:30 pm I realized I'd broken the microSD card. Which of course had not been backed up.
Currently tinkering and I wanted to test how a circuit would work under different voltages to see how many batteries I will need to run it. Time to break out the old Nokia AC/DC adaptor that has been with me since I was a kid. Amazing quality. It worked flawlessly again, of course.
Either the transcription engine failed spectacularly or someone had quite a bit of fun here.

Working with a colleague who prefers LaTeX for once, which is lovely. We use Overleaf for collaborative writing and by setting up automatic sync, I can use Vim for the actual writing again for the first time in 10 years. How I've missed it! All the muscle memory commands are still there.
I found a copy of this old classic in an online auction, bought for the whopping sum of €2. It was released in 1991, only a few months later the Soviet Union collapsed. Clearly the KGB heard the relentless sound of early 90s minimalist techno and realized the game was up.
I needed to get new wheels for my old (10+ yrs) robotic lawnmower. Getting a full new set of 2 x front and 1 x rear wheels would have cost €100. Fortunately, I found 3D printer files and a friend with a 3D printer who could help me, so now I have a full set of new wheels for €15 instead.
After too many struggles with the Nvidia drivers in CachyOS I finally decided to switch distros on my new work laptop to Debian 13. The Nvidia drivers worked straight away as soon as I'd installed them. I've used Linux Mint for 10+ years so I expect a relatively easy transition this time.

I've been looking at the architecture for the past few hours. It's such a fascinating eclectic mix of classic European 19th century that feels very familiar, mixed with Stalinism and hypermodernity, often right next to each other.
In Poland for the first time in almost 30 years, and my first visit ever in Warsaw. So far a very smooth and nice experience. There's a nice Central European vibe that makes me feel very safe and comfortable. The city is lush and green, feels very walkable after a couple of hours on foot exploring.
Headed out for a business trip, so finally time to try out my Christmas present. I had to put some extra stuff in there to fit my needs, and repurpose the soap and shaving foam containers to hold other things, but in the end it worked out nicely. It's nice to have everything neatly organized.
This is the brand we usually drink on Midsummer's Eve (I only ever see it served when we eat during Midsummer's, at Christmas dinners and at student dinners). It's very much a beverage taken with food though, don't think I've ever heard of anyone ordering it in a bar here.

I just received a letter stating that a funding application where I'm principal investigator has been approved. It's not a large sum, but I'll be able to cover some expenses and most importantly, it'll help fund a colleague for a year. After many rejections, this is pretty sweet.
I was just watching an episode of Columbo and guess who showed up in a small part (a few lines in a single scene): Jamie Lee Curtis! This is the year before her big break in Halloween in 1978.

I spotted a Trabant (!) in the parking lot at work this morning. I noticed it in traffic yesterday afternoon as well. Probably a Stasi deep cover sleeper agent who's finally come to take care of me.
Also, I'm going to get one of these and install it next to my computer. When pressed, it should immediately shut down emails, Zoom, Teams, etc. and instead launch a fullscreen feed of nothing but dog and cat videos.
My Danish friends will no doubt enjoy this one. Just out of frame there was a guy carrying around a console of sorts with the text "Kastrup, vi har et problem"
The Carnival is taking place in Lund this weekend. It's only held every four years, so it's a major event when it happens. 9000 students are participating, and around 250 000 visitors are expected. The parade is one of the major events, but there are lots of other attractions as well.
I attended an funeral today. I've been to too many of these in the past few years. So tonight I'm celebrating life. I'm drinking red wine from a beautiful vintage crystal glass, while I'm listening to a 1985 Sisters of Mercy live show and counting my blessings.
