The Blue Box manga ended with chapter 250 this week. I have been reading this for the past 5 years, oh wow A cute little sports high-school story, but the last half kinda dragged a little. I don't think I will read another Romance manga soon, it's mostly not my thing Justice for Hina #Lia2026

--Minor spoilers-- Here is a short write up to stop me from dropping another huge doc (I also don't have all too much to say about this game) I couldn't include every character I wanted, but it is what it is The game gets a "whatever sure" from me #LiaDaybreak2

The general writing is weird, for every good thing came a bad thing. While I still enjoyed it more than DB1, I also had some minor crashouts tho

I still have no idea what shards are suppose to be. They are these vague kind of power that can do anything the plot needs it to be. Normally I am all here for “Don’t overexplain magic”, but this is ridiculous. What do you mean shard search can detect tobacco in the air?? Scratch show don’t tell GAME TELL ME WHAT THIS TECH IS SUPPOSE TO BE AND WHERE IT CAME FROM AND WHY EVERYONE JUST ROLLS WITH IT

The NPCs and Edith in general still stand on the same page as before. No that’s not true... I kinda don’t wanna step in Edith EVER AGAIN. I had enough and am still not engaged in any NPC story, sorry

My favorite plot point from DB1 was the D∴G cult stuff and the Gardens. And that is still the only thing I found interesting here. The Gardenmaster reveal was crazy stupid tho. I could feel that they ran out of time with the game

While the time loop concept is something I enjoyed, it wasn’t always utilized the best. But overall, it was a fun gimmick. I just wish the writing would have been more smart with it

Van - He didn’t knew everyone and everything for once and it was so refreshing. He still hasn’t learned his lesson that he can rely on others by the time the group enters the final dungeon. This is exhausting to witness. His whole deal in the DB1 finale was not relevant the whole time. The Van slander toned down at least. Very underwhelming all in all, I expected more from him

Agnès - Her constant crushing on Van is so cringe to witness GIRL STOP. Otherwise, she is fine but not my favorite

Feri - I still love this child. She is funny and cool

Aaron - His only job in the whole game was to comment on what happened and be “funny”. Huge downgrade. He again worked only in Langport

Risette - She didn’t do much, but is a consistent character

Quatre - He finally got his arc and while I had some issues, he is fine but forgettable

Judith - She didn’t annoy me too much here, but also had nothing going on. Can she just go back to movies, thanks

Bergard - Oh yeah WHY ARE YOU IN THE GROUP PICTURE YOU WEREN’T PRESENT EXCEPT FOR TWO LETTERS. WHYYYYY

Swin and Nadia - I liked them more in Reverie and Nadia sometimes got on my nerves (it shocked me too) but all in all I still like the kids

Elaine - Don’t you have guild work to do? Do that and don’t comment on everything when being with Swin and Nadia. Other than that, she is fine

Renè - He is cool and I am here for the bromance route. His secrecy with Shizuna is annoying tho, we know they got hired man

Shizuna - Nope, I still hate her (But I like how she isn’t present in this picture. Take that!)

Celis and Leon - Weird addition and mostly just playable in the Märchen Garten, but whatever I guess. I like them a bit more compared to DB1

Renne - She is here. I wish she wasn’t. The Nemeth plot was at least well made

Oathbreaker - He got done dirty. His betrayal and all started off so good and after Nemeth, the writers forgot about him and how to tie things up

Quests are mostly not that good nor very memorable, which is fine for me since there are also way less quests in the game and they weren’t the focus. The extermination quests are very lazy tho. Teleport in one screen, defeat mob, leave and don’t explore the whole area that was there in DB1 btw. Might as well could have done everything in the Garten then

Connect events reach from very good to wtf was that Elaine/Shizuna event and can I delete it from my brain please

LGC alignment - Why is this here. I earned one Onyx Steel at the end, thats it. Feels even more cheaper than in DB1

Minigames & Activities - I hated all of them. Gameplay is rough for all and I never spend all of my activity points because it felt like a waste of time

Movies - Mostly whatever and it was a little too easy to see everything

Music choices - This made me so angry at times. A song plays and it doesn’t even fit the scene. But I figured out what exactly it is that’s missing in Calvard:

This arc is missing a leitmotif.

That would be the perfect addition to the scenes the theme “News of Thaw” or “Decay and the Animal Trail” play (they don’t fit story scenes, they are town themes and area themes respectively)
The one thing that comes close to a leitmotif is Cloudy Cloudy and Smoky Smoky.. but they are not utilized or implemented enough for that status

Battles - I like most changes in the battle system, even if there where just minor. What I didn’t like was the S-Craft cooldown. That is not an elegant solution to
S-Craft spam. Why can’t they just make them cost 200 CP again, I don’t get it

Final boss - I really liked how they played around with some mechanics in that fight. It was long overdue, but fun

Final dungeon - That hallway was so short and empty and they tried to hide it by placing three whole “puzzles” in the whole thing. Very disappointing and the worst final dungeon in the whole series so far. I also didn’t like the theme, it felt very generic. Again, this would have been a nice place for some leitmotif

Post game Garten - It was short and there where just two scenes, but that is fine. I really like the Märchen Garten and honestly a short bonus is all post game in a huge JRPG series needs

What also bugs me is the localization and the addition of so many modern words. Renne said “Do Not Disturb Mode” at some point and words like peak and psych dropped. This takes me out of the fantasy world so much

I also don’t like that Agnès and Elaine were the only ones who got a new outfit. Justice for the rest of the gang!

The game still feels a little weird and I guess the reason for that is: it was rushed. Like, nothing was cleared up nicely, it felt like one big sidequest and really rough around the edges. And I kinda hate it that I still prefer this game over DB1.

That being said, thanks for reading and I will take a Trails break now

That's the game! Stats: roughly 104 hours playtime 39 Agnès ahaha 37 ahaha from others I liked it a little more than DB1. The game itself is less polished and I encountered quite a few errors and bugs. It had some moments, but overall didn't had a huge impact on me #LiaDaybreak2 #Lia2026

Finished the Finale and main story This added so little to the overall plot and I am a little confused about the last smartwatch. If the point was to make me excited for Horizon, I sure am not 🗿 A little more yapping in alt as usual For now, post game Garten! This isn't over yet #LiaDaybreak2

The festival was whatever, the activities were again not fun and the forced VanxAgnès was EXHAUSTING

Crazy bookgirl in Blacklight really STABBED the boxxer but he lives... the fact that this is the most interesting thing all chapter says a lot I think

The reveal with Nina was expected, but they really said "If you want to know more, play Horizon LOL" This is kinda annoying. The game doesn't have much overall plot in the first place and what little they give away gets brushed off so easily. Also, Nina wanted to kill the Third C, but that was just a replica anyway and made out of hopes and shards. Sooo what sense does this make?

The final dungeon was very short, boring and I didn't like the theme. Oh and it had a total of three "puzzles". I still don't get why Oathbreaker was here, his storyline felt very unfinished and badly concluded
The only reason for the LGC alignment... is one Onyx Steel at the end. Really... REALLY??

I still have no idea what Almatas legacy was suppose to be and why and how Dingo copy was here. And the eigth smartwatch is there to observe Karma: the Original Sin and it's purpose is to achieve the desired outcome?? Was the prof a edgy teenager or what is this

They tried some new things for the final boss and I respect that. It was even a little fun. The OST wasn't. But why wasn't I allowed to beat the bosses in the rewinded past to 0 HP?? Only 50% and next fight in the finale is really lame

So yeah, that was the main story... Not as maddening as DB1 for me but idk, still very whatever in the end

I wouldn't say it was terrible, but a very nothing burger. I completed the main story and I don't feel like I learned somthing new, got closure or feel like I need a sequel. It was all very nothing, a little strange and they should have let the game on the stove a little longer... and less padding. I don't want a third Calvard game, I am so done with Calvard honestly. And barely anything happened here...
So yeah... I will just grind in the Märchen Garten for now since that's all the post game has to offer and I like the Garten
