I have tried to stay away from the food desert discourse (mainly because I am not that familiar w/ NYC nuances). Regardless, I have a hard time reading the RFP's own description and thinking of the La Marqueta site as a food desert (but am possibly sticking my foot in my mouth).
Anyway, had the intern throw something quick together about grocers and margins (all based off public SEC filings, but I haven't checked the method or data, so caveat lector and all that).
Closer to 11%, but I am just being nit-picky (plus, I haven't scrutinized it closely enough to adjust for gasoline sales). Also, different biz model (memberships; Sam's Club, IIRC, has margins closer to Costco). Ofc, all aggregate data, so you may very well be right on the Kirkland vs other numbers.
