My teenage grandfather met my grandmother on the beach at Katwijk, where my mum lives. He courted her by cycling to Oudewater in a three-piece suit and gaiters. Her mother banned her from meeting him, but her sister arranged for them to meet anyway. The rest is history.
The family has links to Gouda and Oudewater. Mum and dad used to have lunch by the ferry in Schoonhoven. Mum grew up along Tiendweg during the war. The museum is a converted farm with sweet shop, classroom, etc.
