This scene was always one of the most memorable Final Fantasy experiences to me. The music, the symbolism of crossing the bridge to start your journey, the feeling of adventure into the unknown.
"I, Garland, will knock you all down!!!" I'm so glad they kept this line! It's the spoony bard of FF4 or the thou of DQ. It's too classic to change. (And yes I am in fact poisoned with no way to cure it. Status effects are serious in this game. I will charge forward anyway!)
For what it's worth right now my Thief is actually doing more damage than my Warrior because his accuracy is higher and thus is getting more hits on average. They are using the same weapon.
It seems like the invisible NPC from the NES version has now completely vanished. NES version of Final Fantasy was incredibly buggy. Weapon weakness? Don't work. Spells like Temper (TMPR)? Don't work. Critical hits? Based accidently on item ID. I still loved it but yeah 😅
Okay I take it back. This game just got interesting challenge wise again! I've seen play on the default settings and the XP / gold was way over-tuned for my liking. I'm going to be sticking with this throughout and I'll see how things feel.
Going with a fairly classic team. It's sacrilege not to include a Red Mage but I wanted to see if the Thief / Ninja has improved and wanted access to all the shiny magic FX so this is the team. *Elliot is here to bring the Red Mage hat-style in spirit.
It's time for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster! This is the only version of this game I have not played. My favorite is a toss up so far between the original for nostalgia reasons and the Wonderswan / PS1 versions. They kept the charm and challenge. Will this one? No but... it's darn pretty!
It's time to start a new adventure! Given everything going on how can I not?!?!
Dragon Quest 2 NES/SNES Spoilers (from the officially included material)! I always wondered how you were supposed to know to use the Eye of Hargon here. No NPC in the entire world tells you to use this. Now I know. Should've checked the manual.
GoG Galaxy's new download screen is pretty nice! Lots more info on it and visually pleasing as well.
Finished Final Fantasy 3 (3D) GoG version. It's a FF game so I enjoyed it but I was hoping for a bit more coming from the added lore that just wasn't there. The pixel remaster is just the superior version even with missing the 3D additions. Better visuals, music, balance, exploration.
Both the Crystal Tower and Eureka have pretty epic music to listen to while marching towards the end of the Final Fantasy 3 journey!
How about an iced tea in Caradoc's favorite glass? (Now with condensation drips) #DragonQuest
Still playing a bit with the condensation animation speed and such. There's also a bit of a weird refraction interaction going on with the glass, condensation, and liquid. I'm not sure why... maybe I need to try to boolean cut the condensation from the glass. At least that's my guess.
Working on making some condensation running along the outside. It's subtle but nice.
Got the final jobs (a bit early - sequence breaking!) in Final Fantasy 3. Going for magic heavy here with a side of ninja~ I may swap in a summoner at some point but everyone knows the best summoner is Rydia.
I'm not sure how I feel about having a dark knight running the inn. I would say he is one of Cecil's ancestors but that would be very complicated given everything.
I feel the Behemoth is one of the more recognizable monsters in the Final Fantasy series going back to its NES beginnings. Many of the summons/espers and chocobos as well though they aren't really monsters.
Final Fantasy 3 today begins with the party all minified up! One thing the 3D version does better than the 2D is give you that sense of miniature scale.
Dragon Quest glasses, the official glasses of Patty's Party Planning Place/Ludia's Bar, now featuring the emblems of Moobrooke, Cannock, and Midenhall.
Most methods for flakes are either based on altering the base color with brighter flakes, altering the normal map to reflect light, or a low level shader to amplify light / normals. I used the normal map approach but with a twist.
Glittery flakes material. I've seen multiple different approaches to do this for metallic flakes to snow but none of them twinkled as much I'd like. Here's what I came up with a solution:
Electroplated, ductile doofus! Got a good chuckle. Sounds like something I'd say 😜
Final Fantasy 3 starts today with applying eye drops mid boss battle. One of the nice things about this game is that you actually do need to use your status removing items from time to time.
Lastly use blend shapes/morpher on the UV island mesh and target it back to its original shape in 3D. Because you have skinned the lattice to the island mesh, when the island mesh is morphed back to its original position the lattice will go along!
Next you want to place your lattice over the UV islands of your mesh as shown. Cut it as close as is reasonable. Now skin wrap to lattice to the island mesh (sometimes called particle skinning, vertex skinning, full weight skinning).
