it's the summer of spending as much time with my very old dog as possible. and reading so many gd good books.
When I moved into this house, this tree was small and bare. It was a surprise when it bloomed then, but 5 years later, oh my. I've worked hard on this yard and don't look forward to July's heat. Virginia's given some morning reprieve so far and I've just been reading poems here in the cool mornings
big recommend going to your best local book/record store to hear good poetry readings like this new anthology ed. by Allison Titus and Ashley Capps: The New Sentience, Reimagining Animal Poetry
This old man is getting too old. He fell down a few stairs and is limping today. Last few months he's started to have old dog ailments galore. I've had him almost 16 years. Tell me I can weather this coming storm.
15 years ago me and this boi became soulmates and I can't believe how many lives I've lived with him by my side.
I feel like following @hanvanderhart.bsky.social and their gentle, full persistence on rest, quiet, and poems has really influenced (!) me. I got away for a few days to quiet quiet mountains and no service and read Glück and others and it was good. I can keep being a part of this world now.
Pablo at a park in front of the white flowers. Because he's almost 15 and still with me and I have lived at least 7 lives since 2010, when he became my everything.
I recommend a good hard hike with a good fun friend for these not good times. The body moving, the body exhausted, the body in awe, the body laughing. It revives me, readies me to work my way through.
How are you doing in these wild times? Me? Oh I'm okay. Yeah I'm hanging in there I feel like an adult who can stay informed and live her life yeah sure I'm fine I'm okay I'm fine* *buys more books and brings a foster puppy home then buys more books
How many times do I need to remember that walking with my boy under any sky, amongst any set of trees, saves me? Every time.
Thanks for this. I am not very good at short poems but I made this one after a breakup and still love it:
In the dark times it’s good to watch people finish the Richmond half and full marathon. Pro-tip: keep your eye on the faces of runners just before the finish line.
