Aquatic Biologist • I make art sometimes • (He/him/His)
Pinning for posterity: Hi all, my name is Tucker and I'm an aquatic biologist from New Hampshire, USA. My background is in aquatic arthropod morphology, though I'm still early in my career. Currently job hunting and looking into graduate schools. I'm also a traditional illustrator. Open to travel!
Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam, or alice in chains.
I bought a little 𝘚𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘢 on impulse at outlr local greenhouse and some of the pitchers have become really robust since.
I bought the cheapest Bluetooth compatible cassette nugget to play this but I'm just so glad these tapes still work! I don't expect the player I have to withstand the test of time so if I end up getting disposable income any time soon I might invest in one of those nice fiio players...
Awesome antique store pull. Now I just gotta get that old cassette radio out of the garage and working to see if these are any good.
Could only justify buying the one, I didn't want to pass a speech check to haggle for it. It's smaller than I expected but it's very cute. I might save it and buy some proper paints for it, even though it's snap-together and came with stickers I think it'd be worth the effort.
VERY sketchy Genesis P42 with my travel watercolor kit. Wanted to go as fast as I could while still making it legible (kinda) to simulate doing plein air on a train platform, which I plan to do soon. #Amtrak, #Trains, #Trainspotting
Shrimps likes to sit on my back after I shave my head. He's pondering my head like the orb.
It's a replica of a seal from the Osaka Aquarium in Japan! Her name is Yuki, and her plushies kinda went viral for a little while. I imported it directly from the aquarium a little before Covid, but now it's Sheep's favorite spot in the house. It's very squishy like a squishmallow.
For reference here are the main belligerents; Shrimp is orange and Sheep is black.
A bit janky but it's done. Here's my completed illuminated manuscript page for my cats Shrimp and Sheep. The ink I use for my blackletter practice didn't really bind well to the acrylic so I chiseled out the font and then painted it in with black acrylic afterwards. #art, #illustration, #myart
Day 1 (top) vs day 2 (bottom) of blackletter calligraphy practice. It's slow going but its a very meditative process. #calligraphy, #blacklettercalligraphy
I have to go over this again with a few more layers but I used an actual calligraphy brush from my sumi-e gear to write the proper Kanji from a reference. After this its just the eye!
Getting rid of his scuff marks and cleaning him up a bit. Gotta figure out what to draw on his belly. I'm gonna color in his eye and wish for stable employment this year.
There were a pair of immature bald eagles fighting over some kind of bird behind the art supply wholesale store that I got my calligraphy stuff at today. Only got a picture of one since the other flew behind a fence in someone's backyard. 🪶
I'm currently learning blackletter calligraphy for my silly cat illustration. It's actually very satisfying.
I need to come up with some sort of Latin phrase that I can fit in the top, with the first letter illuminated. I also need to learn how to do calligraphy.
