Woodworking, gardening, flyfishing, bread baking.
If branches fall in your yard, you pick them up, tie them up, and carry them to the curb for pickup. Or, if you're total white trash, just throw it over the fence for the neighbors to deal with.
First time growing rutabagas. Succession planted in the garlic bed. #vegetablegardening
It was a good day to ride some forty-four year old steel. Albany, New York, USA.
Albany, New York. Orange sky, orange sun from wildfires in Ontario. Our brothers and sisters upwind must be suffering.
The Nielsen House, Kosciuszko Memorial, and the Monument to the Unknown American Dead, Saratoga Battlefield National Historical Park.
At the Battles of Saratoga, General Benedict Arnold served with near-reckless heroism, and was desperately wounded in the leg. He went on to become the most despicable turncoat of his age. An 1887 monument to his military genius at Saratoga celebrates his wounded leg, but does not mention his name.
Bread just out of the oven, and a crock pot of red beans 'n rice. #Sourdough #breadsky
Remember when Obama predicted what a Trump White House would look like? Not even close.
Benjamin Warner (1757-1846) bequeathed his knapsack to his son thusly: “This Napsack I caryd Through the War of the Revolution to achieve the American Independence....and whilst one shred of it shall remain never surrender you libertys to a foren envador or an aspiring demegog." NO KINGS
The indoor temp is about 1,000° Fahrenheit, so yeah, why not bake some bread? #Sourdough #Breadsky
May, 1864, Belle Plain. Encampment of 1st Massachusetts and 2nd New York Heavy Artillery units. Daniel White is somewhere in this photo. Three weeks later, he was shot through the left hand before Petersburg.
Part of me wants to be fully on top of this, but after thinking about it, I just don't deserve it.
After mixing everything, I slap-n-fold for 5 or 6 minutes to this song in my head: "Somewhere out on that horizon Far away from the neon lights..." Looking for something of the same vintage, same beat, more uplifting. #Sourdough #breadsky
I'm reading some Walt Whitman: his civil war poetry and notes about his time as a volunteer hospital assistant. Our fathers left us clear paths to follow. Explicit instructions. Yet we are blind. "I rose from the chill ground and folded my soldier well in his blanket, And buried him where he fell."
