They finished their tea in an uncomfortable silence, broken only by Lan Huan's attempts to make conversation, which sank instantly as if dropped into a deep well.

So Lan Qiren can be forgiven, perhaps, for scowling at the small black cat when he encountered it next. “Shoo,” he said, very firmly. He must be clear and confident, he thought. He had only spoken firmly last time. He must be more forceful now.

The cat had just emerged from a convenience store. It stopped and looked at Lan Qiren. “Maoww,” it said sadly.

“No,” Lan Qiren said. “Go away.”

It's Saturday again! I'm trying to catch up with the week after being sick, and enjoying some beautiful spring weather. Still tired and mildly cranky though. :/ What about you?
