This one's been a long time coming; I first came up with the idea for this work back in December of last year, but only now did I finally come around to giving it the attention it deserves. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing and creating the art for it!

Summary:
A celebration of life. A reminder that you managed to make it another long, grueling year. A time for those you love to gather around, give gifts, light candles and make a wish, eat a wondrous dessert, and appreciate how far you've come. Walk with me, my friend, for this one may cause some head-scratchers I believe that Malzeno/Primordial Malzeno from Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a Sakiko:

The following information is taken from my memory of playing the game, compounded with the collected knowledge from interviews and the (unfortunately untranslated) official works books of MH Rise: Sunbreak from https://monsterhunterwiki.org/

The Necessary Aspects:

1. A narrative exists for both variants of Malzeno where it is seen as an antagonist:
1a. Malzeno was first believed to be the cause of the Qurio infestation (parasite feasting on the bioenergy of the wildlife) plaguing the lands of Elgado and Kamura, before it was later discovered that it had been defending against quite literally a bigger, greater "evil" in the shape of the Elder Dragon Gaismagorm
1b. Primordial Malzeno's legend of being the land's protector over time had shifted to shape it as the antagonist as people forgot of its existence
2. Primordial Malzeno is the true appearance of Malzeno, and was able to co-exist with the human population without much issue; Its naivety could be interpreted via its belief that it can defend against the Qurio on its own forever? It's hard to really say due to it being an animal
3. The very existence of Malzeno was the only thing holding back the Qurio infestation from getting any worse than it already was, a remnant of before its developed symbiosis with the parasitesAs a long-living species, it kind of loses itself to the power of the Qurio
3a. This point is more obvious in Primordial Malzeno's active story, as during the hunt against it, you witness it reluctantly tapping into the power of the Qurio when it can't fight the swarm back enough before weaponizing that same power against you

5. Primordial Malzeno's legend from long ago painted it as the protector of the peoples' land, with its shed scales being made into charms and gifted to others as a symbol of lasting peace and protection
6. It is eventually shown in its story hunt that it isn't actively fighting you but rather the Qurio, you just happen to be misinterpreting its intent

The Extra Points:

1. Do scales count??
2. Other than the legend previously described, Elder Dragons are typically known to be rather "otherworldly" in nature and have aspects of their ecology that can't be fully explained (i.e. Kirin's control of lightning is only known to have something to do with the horn on its head)
3. Malzeno's development in design and gameplay was based on Dracula and had keywords tied to aristocracy, nobility and grandeur, with elements of its design inspired by the imagery of a noble sitting at a long table with candlesticks while stirring a glass of wine (Source: https://news.capcomusa.com/2022/11/30/the-making-of-malzeno-monster-hunter-rise-sunbreak)
4. Malzeno's regal presence is a front for its truly aggressive and brutal fighting style, capable of literal speed blitzes and deadly thrusting/sweeping attacks when provoked This aspect is a little bit less pronounced in Primordial Malzeno's fighting style - utilizing its tail and wings like the lance, sword and shield of a royal knight - but once it accepts the symbiosis with the Qurio presents the same traits as its vampiric variant
5. *Points at the legend of Primordial Malzeno again*
6. This is just a natural behaviour baked into every applicable monster in the game, but Malzeno will retreat to a different area of the map after fighting for a while to recuperate, eventually retreating to its nest if its HP gets low enough
