A bit of Nature Photography rather than just filmmaking from me last week, with some Heath Fritillary Butterflies #NaturePhotography #Butterfly #ukwildlife #insect
A hovering Volucella pellucens Hoverfly from my latest video (see my last post)
Them: "Go outside in Nature, it is great for relieving stress" Me, who is stressed because when working in Nature (reserves) I'm seeing the rubbish everywhere, dogs off lead scaring wildlife, dog poo, cats hunting lizards, areas set on fire, ponds destroyed by constant dog activity..: "Ok, thanks"
Turns out the hottest day of the year is not a good day to try film one of the worlds fastest insects without a lot of frustration and nearly melting. Worth it though!
When 3 Black Winged Stilts appear 15mins from home in your local RSPB reserve but you don't want to look uncool to @flygirlnhm.bsky.social so you carry on filming Beeflies 🤣 (Also beeflies > almost all birds anyway! )
One thing on my list to film is this behaviour I witnessed a few years ago now. Its a Great Silver Water Beetle larva eating a snail. It grabs the water snail with its asymmetrical mouthparts, wraps its body around it and uses brute force to crunch through the shell and get the soft chewy centre!
The noisy chaos that is Marsh Frogs this time of year! Males calling, wresting and a pair in amplexus, all filmed in the 5 minutes that I had the hide at Rainham to myself! #pondlife #ukwildlife #wildlife
Today is International Beaver Day, so here is my one and (so far) only encounter with a wild European Beaver, filmed a couple of years ago. Hope to see another one (or more!) later this year :)
When you go to your local nature reserve, look out the first hide and instead of wildlife, you see this. Illegal fishing on a nature reserve is one thing, but walking out in front of the hide... They have also smashed a fence and cleared a swim in another spot. In the nesting season too :(
Marsh Harrier flying effortlessly in the wind - just one of the cool bird encounters from my latest video, which you can see here: youtu.be/duJUo7LzX8g #birds #ukwildlife #birding
Some clips of a Rock Pipit at RSPB Rainham Marshes #birdwatching #birds #ukbirds @essexbirdnews.bsky.social
1st day out with the camera in 3weeks. Just spent 2 hours looking for Water Pipits where 12 were seen yesterday. Ive had just 1 fly over! Lol
Marsh Helleborine Epipactis palustris from last summer, on the only site for them in Essex. Just one of many wonderful species found on our brownfield sites, many of which are under threat #wildflowers #orchid
I don't post enough (proper) photos on here these days, so here is 1st half decent Jay photo I managed - it took until last year to get 1!
Beautiful frosty morning - shame I just had a dog owner let their dog piss up my new last week camera bag FFS Its ok as she was "sorry" and tried to clean it for 2 seconds with a plastic poo bag...
If you are looking for a Christmas present for a Freshwater Invertebrate obsessed friend (or someone that thinks they are cool) I have something might be ideal, I used some of pond life photos into a handy Pond life ID chart shirt Link my Teemill page here: uk-wildlife.teemill.com/product/pond...
A short clip from my latest video, where I spent an evening filming waders, including these Redshank - Full video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwKw... #birds #birdwatching #ukwildlife #nature #wildlife
Some distant footage of the Kingfisher at Thameside NR having a preen #ukbirds #ukwildlife #kingfishers
Time-lapse of tide coming in at Mucking Creek - note how it doesn't just come in, going up and down, and couple of surges come in too
I spent 5 minutes at the Ant nests at Hanningfield Reservoir NR filming Wood Ants on Monday and here are a few clips I filmed
Feeding Black-tailed Godwit from late summer #ukwildife #birds #birdwatching #WildlifeFilmmaking
A wonderful moment of a Marsh Harrier hovering above the reeds before dropping down and landing in them
A clip of a couple of juvenile Cormorants from my "How I set up for filming wildlife" video I just posted Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmXY... #ukwildlife #birds #wildlife #nature #wildlife #filmmaking
