Last night I sensibly read a few chapters before turning the light out. Tonight I’ve put in about 2.5 hours because I just had to finish it. Now I can 😴

Special day, helping with the lyrebird count in Sherbrooke forest this morning and though there were plenty of other birds heard at dawn, unsurprisingly a lyrebird was first to be seen. Vid is the closest I’ve ever been to one. His name is The Pretender, over 20 years old. #Firstbirdofmyday

The mist was rising early this morning. Crimson rosellas on the wires and 1 flying past me as I opened the back door. Later on my walk Grey butcher birds were singing gloriously around these ponies grazing on the edge of the Ferny Creek gardens. #Firstbirdofmyday #Whatsyours

Fbomd was not a corvid but a lyrebird, several in fact on the path. Nearly walked into a female as she ran across the track in front of me. The males were all in great form- display time. All sounds on video were made by the 1 bird which I finally saw on the tree.

This little robin was following me around the garden (not mine unfortunately) as I raked up the leaves a couple of autumns ago.

Also spotted this very rare cockatree bird along the way 😏

An Australasian Darter was first sighted on our lake walk this morning. I’m disqualifying Maggie on the grounds that she thinks she’s human, not a bird when it comes to lining up for breakfast as soon as the light goes on in the kitchen!

Rainbow lorikeets chattering in the elms as I left the house were first heard but the lyrebird in Sherbrooke forest on our walk was first seen. Look at those tail feathers! #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Son of Maggie was warbling loudly this morning, calling for breakfast I think. Maggie was close by staring straight at me through the kitchen window. She has me well trained! #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

A tie between the red wattlebird and the currawong. Wattlebird was poking around the salvia at the bottom of the back steps and the currawong was warily hopping up the steps for a few meaty scraps I’d tossed out. - here’s the wattlebird, closest I could get. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours

I didn’t get a photo this morning but this one is one I took earlier this year.
