Math geek, musician, stroke survivor, NASA nerd (until they RIF us, anyways), former high school teacher, and walking ‘hot mess’
You’ll need to get one of these… (apologies for pictures being more focused on the inlay work and not the full instrument, I wasn’t thinking of you when I took the pictures 15 years ago… rude, I know)
I went to a music clinic J. Batten held in the 90s - someone asked why she had her hair down “natural style” “An earthquake moved all of my hair products into the toilet, I saw that as a hint so I just threw them away”
Mom dropped a note, “had great food 5 miles from your house with family in town, totally didn’t invite you but it was delicious” 🤦♂️
I got a new backpack, the cat got a new box. I give him an hour before he starts eating it and I have to take it away.
Watching TV when we thought it might be her last weekend. Little treatment and she went another 4 years :)
We have someone working here who absolutely cannot park a car, I wonder how they drive on the road. They set a new record today in the “distance from the curb” competition
Ha! Found more context in a list memorializing closed music venues… i did see the Tool show referenced in the review, Nine Inch Nails, a Megadeth show, and the very interesting Helmet/Henry Rollins double headline with Primus’ original members playing under the name “Sausage” at that place.
It’s a slow day in the office when the highlight of my day is the car’s odometer flipping to all 7’s on the way home.
I spent 3 years in the Netherlands, learned very quickly to respect the “DEI lights” in my actual bike lane. Americans are lucky if the pavement is slightly wider with a half-ass paint job implying you shouldn’t intentionally hit a cyclist with your vehicle.
Night 2 of fireworks is going better than Night 1 - Big Handsome has declared the computer desk as his “safe space” where he can be irritated, but unharmed.
I had to swing by the building with flags, tried to grab a pic for your background but the wind was not cooperating…
My account profile pic at work. Somehow they haven’t got up my backside about it.
Gotta get that Stuart Smalley Daily Affirmation going!
I’ve rehabilitated a second instrument, might actually be a musician again after 15-20 years of solid practice.
Finished, mostly, the setup. I can probably tweak the neck a little bit more but otherwise it’s ready to go. My left side (stroke side) has virtually no muscle memory apparently, but the right hand is ready to go full speed so relearning…again… should be interesting.
Frets are clean, fretboard is giving every indication it’s done “drinking” but I don’t see how that’s possible so I’ve just hung it up for the night, finish after work tomorrow.
It’s been about 6 years since I’ve touched any instruments, kinda went 24-7 on work/nap when COVID hit and I’ve just not gone back and played music since. So… if I can remember how to do it, need to clean the frets, condition the fretboard, restring, adjust the neck relief… Shit. That’s a lot.
After foundation repair, replacing flooring, and generally not remembering where anything was before the chaos… I’m finding all kinds of things I thought were gone years ago. Apparently I kept a few Metallica vinyls despite not having a record player.
Obligatory orange cat photo. This is the patented “come closer so I can bite you” pose
Every two years I pay an unholy sum of money to have 10 people climb around in the trees with saws, thinning them out again. I’m honestly surprised how much they can grow in only 24 months, it buried my driveway, part of the yard, and into the street.
Apparently today is Waffle Wednesday… the interns take over a conference room and make breakfast. I have no idea what they do outside of the 1st Wednesday of each month but they’re pretty consistent in the Waffle department
I can’t tell if he said “I’m interested, tell me more” or “I’m hungry, stop pointing your phone at me”
Had to dig to find it on the Facebook account (that exists to pull old pictures from), and the text cuts off before “nobody’s thrown a touchdown yet” but I do miss baseball.
Not quite 5 here (1978?) but you can clearly see 1) our parents forced double supervision on me so I couldn’t accidentally break the brand new shuttle they brought to Ellington 2) I was groomed to work in the Aerospace Industry as a child
