A slightly neurospicy Gen-X tiki fan, word nerd, and curmudgeon. Not a bear. A bit of a gainer. Cis-homo/queer. I contradict myself. I am large; I contain multitudes. Bring on the matriarchy. No LGB without the T. 🏳🌈🏳⚧ #1,251,885
L-lysine. Warts. Let's give it a whirl, shall we? We've tried every damned thing else under the sun, so why not? How great would it be to say "RIP periungual warts. 1987–2026"?
Strictly Canadian version. People: You can’t just post one line from a song and expect everyone to know the song. Me: Let's go, girls.
In other news, it's sometimes interesting to look up people from your past to see how they're doing. You hope they're well. But I did not expect the disturbing bombshell I saw last night about someone I used to carpool with. No details, but I do wish I could undo this particular search. Awful.
Grateful to Anne Hathaway for dropping Selmasongs by Björk in conversation as a great album. Listened to it this morning while weeding, and yep. Enchanting. One more reason to love Björk.
A fat boy on the hottest day of the year (so far) and his new keyboard. It's a beautiful thing. Let the music flow! And get me a quesadilla and a mai tai while you're at it!
Happy tummy/titty Tuesday. Staying inside as much as possible today...heat yes, but now also smoke from a nearby brush fire. Let's eat and drink and be merry.
Terrible sleep last night resulted in a terrible workout today. I'm realizing my protein intake is woefully inadequate. Eyes on my health. Wanna stay strong and get stronger. But hey...it's Tuesday, so let's join the festivities.
The green witch in me visited yesterday! Latest project: horseradish tincture. You know how good this stuff is for sinus issues? This obliterated two colds for me over the past few years. At least...the unadulterated root did. So effective I wanted the tincture on hand if/when it happens again.
Tonight's #tiki libation: the Jungle Bird. Can't see the drink, but this is one of my favorite glasses. Dark rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and the outlier: Campari. It works so well. Simple and one of my favorite cocktails.
I eat a lot too quickly. I feel like I swallowed a brick and it ain't moving. I take a capsule of goldenseal root (bc it's on hand...its relative Oregon grape root would be environmentally preferable). That brick dissolves QUICKLY and I feel so much better. Three cheers for botanical medicine.
Can something as simple as glass tealight candle holders impart power? Because I got some tonight for my itty bitty tealight candles, and I now feel all witchy and stuff...like I can now cast effective spells for the benefit of our nation about...someone we all know. So mote it be, I guess? 🔮🕯️😁😈🧙🏼♂️
I found this adorable little pup sleeping on my pillows tonight before I got to bed. No lie, I was contemplating sleeping on the couch because how could I consider disturbing such amazing peace? (Happy spoiler: we agreed to a peaceful move, and he's sleeping peacefully again.)
I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS SHIT. I DO NOT APPROVE. STOP THIS. WHY ARE MY TAXES GOING TOWARD THIS AND NOT TOWARD PROVIDING FOOD AND HOUSING AND JOBS? I WANT A RESET.
Me as I eat two boxes of Annie's mac and cheese with a can of chili, plus extra sour cream: This is normal, right?
For the first time since 2002, when I first got Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and quickly put it away, I'm gonna give this album in its entirety a fair go. Really did not get it back then. One song in, and my take is that I just had not done enough living (and hard drinking) yet. This is promising.
Wow. Stumbled across this this morning and...it's an interesting take. Resonated with me, I guess.
So I've been doing morning pages for the past month or so. Waking and writing three pages, or roughly 750 words. About anything, including stream of nonsense (and that happens a lot). I, uh, feel like I'm ready to move to the next phase of writing, whatever that is. Asking the skyers for guidance.
On today's afternoon walk: more sweet-smelling plumerias, Rachmaninoff's grandiose 3rd piano concerto (about which more later), and this captivating tree. Such contrast between the frost-silver tree bark and the indigo flowers, as vivid as they are tiny. Curious to know what tree this is.
Say hello to the plumeria (aka the frangipane), my favorite flower of all time. Beautiful and the most amazing tropical smell. This lovely tree happens to exist just across the road from me. It is my hope to have a plumeria tree where I eventually end up.
Another day, another Singapore Sling. Another day in the life of am enthusiastic amateur tiki bartender.
You guys. I have a tremendous long lost find. If you're Gen X, come back with me. If not, come back anyway. Especially if you like intelligent hard rock. Living Colour, y'all. Time's Up is fucking brilliant, and I'm sorry I haven't heard it for years. It deserves a spin again.
Happy sunny Tummy Tuesday, y'all. (Or is there another kind of Tuesday? Maybe this would have been better for Monday?)
By choice, this was dinner tonight. Broccoli, brown rice, olive oil, and garlic salt. Don't ask what unholy gut bomb lunch was. Hence the Very Healthy Dinner. But it was truly delicious. And now your day is complete. Put down your phone and go play. Come back when the streetlights come on.
So...Lebanon and Israel are celebrating a ceasefire by...* checks notes*...firing gunshots and fireworks. Just...not at each other. Got it. *sigh* This world is so weird.
I've long known that a spoonful of honey at bedtime can help with good quality sleep. I've done it and felt better, fallen asleep more quickly. But it's also good to hear confirmation from someone else that I'm sleeping more soundly through the night because of that spoonful of honey.
We're having what passes for weather today in Palm Springs. Clouds. We're having clouds today.
