new GITS blends a whole bunch of different styles in a way that still feels super naturalistic, I love it
most of what you'll hear about is 19th century dueling stuff b/c it's really good at the "1v1 in a nice gym" of HEMA, this thing is like ... for teaching a British farmboy in 15 minutes so he can survive long enough against a French marine for his buddies to gank them
I have decided the best way to express this at my disposal is mech sprites. It's this, the guy on the right is fucked but artists don't seem to realise that
Darktide has been adding increasingly out-there 40k weapons, plasma and electricity and psychic force amplifiers, and still, at the end of the day, nothing beats good ole rock
... I'm sorry does this Irish literary novel from 1970 include a guy who starts wearing women's clothes for a bit then keeps doing it for the rest of the book with increasingly obvious joy???? did J. G. Farrell predict F1NN5TER????
you are on the first one! relatively close to the bottom, iirc you got in right under the wire
old mate spends a solid three paragraphs going "look this is meant to be sung in Te Reo, translating it into English for the page robs it of a lot of its power, I'm sorry this is the best I can do" then absolutely smashes it for six
Flipping from a poorly-written book about Māori 'savages' and their wizard power to a revered kaumātua telling our creation myths is ... just such a leap, THIS is who we are (Navigating the Stars by Witi Ihimaera)
I don't know how I got this many followers, I'm just here to make terrible memes about Lancer, a blood and lasers tabletop mech RPG
I am once again raising the banner. Click this link for cool follows: go.bsky.app/VaypaqC
a better photo of the gate but it looked less ominous and dramatic so I think it gets its own post
does ... does he think pātaka are houses, bro what do you mean small buildings and low doors, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN SLEEPING
whaling and sealing were massive industries that Māori were heavily involved in. Remember The Wellerman? It's those guys, the Wellermen. He knows about whale oil and the word for 'whale'. Also what the fuck do you mean we don't use lights to navigate the dark bro what do you think fire is
'Priest' is like 75% accurate and the definition given is -10000% accurate. Also a karakia is a blessing or prayer, he's praying, I feel like white people understand that one, why does it become magic when a brown person does it.
Claude, looking at the Adriatic on a nice day: fuck this, this sucks
Rosie has tucked herself in, say GOOD NIGHT ROSIE for ten thousand years good rest
This book is so normal about Māori women
This is a common USian mistake that never should've made it past an editor, especially in the first para of the book: it's THE North Island and THE South Island. It's like saying Alabama is "in south"
... okay my reo sucks but I have never seen Atua used like that in my life. It's not 'spirit' it's 'God' Also the plural of Māori is Māori, 'Maoris' is something you'd see in a racist letter to the editor
Found this in a second hand bookstore today and I am preparing my body for a bad time
my sole contribution to football discussion today
keep a little mud under my pillow for the mud mannn
Reading In The Memorial Room and damned if a 1974 book satirising writers doesn't still hit
haven't done a squishy one in a minute
I'm so used to euphemism in these things, I didn't expect the media to outright say "yeah they're doing this to target a specific brown youth subculture". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren_k...
