I did a workshop with AJ from the Pottery Throwdown and I just picked up my fired creation today! I am definitely not a natural at this and it was very apparent that my blob was worse than anyone other than the literal small children but I had fun

I went to a writing workshop that turned out to be blackout poetry. Task: make something gay out of Fourth Wing. This is what I came up with

The Gutenberg Bible

In the 1440s, German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1400-1468) began the printing revolution in Europe. Before this, texts were handwritten or produced from carved wooden blocks.

Gutenberg's press was more fully mechanised than others of the time. Text could be printed more quickly, at less expense and with greater accuracy than before. By 1455, Gutenberg's printing experiments culminated with the production of about 180 copies of the Bible, the first substantial book printed in Europe with moveable metal type.

To manage its great size, the Bibles were bound into two parts: the first include the first half of the Old Testament, with the latter half and New Testament included in the second.

Today, 49 copies of Gutenberg's Bible are known to exist and only 21 of those are complete including the Library's copy.

In the early 1940s, Scottish artist Robert MacBryde moved to London with his long-term partner, fellow artist and creative collaborator, Robert Colquhoun. There, 'The Two Roberts' joined a vibrant bohemian scene of leading artists and poets. This still life was painted in their Bedford Gardens studio, where the two artists lived and worked together. MacBryde presents the unexpected combination of a curved slice of melon and a sharply patterned backgammon board. The juxtaposition of the soft and the angular, and the exposure of the objects' interiors, plays on their gendered symbolism. Two enigmatic shadows cast over the table add an unsettling note to the composition. Intensely influenced by George Braque's work, MacBryde earned himself the nickname 'MacBraque'

Robert Colquhoun (1914-1962)

In the early 1940s, Scottish artist Robert Colquhoun set up in London with his long-term partner, fellow artist and creative collaborator, Robert MacBryde. There, the 'Two Roberts' joined a vibrant bohemian scene of leading artists and poets of their time. Painted in his mid-20s, Colquhoun's closely observed self-portrait shows the confident young artist at the beginning of his career. Responding to fellow artists such as Pablo Picasso and Jankel Adler, his style soon evolved, while the human figure remained a central focus. Describing his new vision as 'many sided', for Colquhoun each new painting represented'...a kind of discovery, a discovery of new forms, colour relation, or balance in composition'.

Saw some cool art at Modern 1 but this is one for the Who fans - Daphne Oram, co-founder of the Radiophonic Workshop, by Victoria Morton (2014)

In her painting, Victoria Morton (born 1971) evokes the pulsating music of trailblazing electronic composer Daphne Oram (1925-2003). Oram co-founded the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1957 where she created sound effects and otherworldly scores to dramatise radio and television productions. Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001) later created the iconic Dr Who soundtrack there. Oram invented Oramics, a process for synthesising sound by drawing shapes directly onto film. She commented: 'Once the composer can write without the limitations of performance his palette is extended enormously... Rhythms become anything the composer can visualise ... Timbres have no registration and theoretically any sound, musical or otherwise, is within his grasp.'

Saw the Joan Eardley exhibition at Modern 2 today which was fantastic. There's no point in me taking pictures of the whole painting when you can see them already but here are some details. I love how dynamic the waves are and the little blue door.

Everything's queer now in pop music, isn't it? We've got Chappell Roan and Olly Alexander, Mika, Scissor Sisters, and Orville Peck, who I love... It's a great era for being queer in music. It's just such a shame being trans is not included in this fabulous era and mainstream press and others are trampling on trans people for some reason

Doctor Who: Flux. Status: Fluxxed. Everyone was lovely although I didn't say much to any of them! Jodie liked the Stuart Manning poster and Ncuti liked the magazine and had a little leaf through before he signed it for me.
