BBC journalist Ashley Lime, based in Kenya, spoke at the Exeter Climate Conference yesterday about how climate change is an acute issue for Africa, affecting health, food security and economies, and how culture and tradition plays a role in shaping perceptions. ⤵️ 👀 she describe what gives her hope.

The research shows that wild geese are a useful benchmark for evaluating the behaviour of geese under human care. It also supports the use of time-activity budgets as practical tools for evidence-based husbandry. 6/6 Full paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

But high inactivity rates among the captive geese highlights the need for further enrichment, and dynamic enclosure management to further improve goose behavioural diversity. 5/6

Negative ‘abnormal’ behaviours were very minimal in captive geese, suggesting management supports good welfare, while the birds still expressed healthy, goal-seeking behaviours such as grazing – which points to an enriched captive environment. 4/6

Researchers led by Dr Paul Rose @exeter.ac.uk found that captive geese rest more and socialise less than their wild counterparts, although their behaviour was species-typical. 2/6
