Demonstrators are taking to the street, marching through La Villita down 26th Street - a busy corridor at the heart of one Chicago's largest Latine and immigrant communities.

Not long after they address the crowd, an organizer leads a chant demanding justice: for Villegas González, and for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who ICE agents shot and killed in Houston, TX on 7/7 and in Biddeford, ME on 7/13 respectively.

Speakers address the crowd, denouncing ICE and their recent killings. Reps of a group called Hijas del Pueblo come forward, announcing their intention to make permanent a memorial to Silverio Villegas González, who an as-yet unidentified ICE agent shot and killed in Franklin Park, IL last September.

On top of the poor air quality and oppressive heat in Chicago today, a heavy rain shower just passed through. The demonstrators decided the rain wouldn't stop them: "The rain has stopped, and we're still here," one organizer says as the sun comes out.

Happening now in Chicago: community members and activists are in the La Villita/Little Village neighborhood to demonstrate against continued ICE violence in across the country. In just the last two weeks, ICE agents have killed 2 men. A 3rd died running from agents, and a 4th died in ICE custody.

Multiple rapid response groups report ICE abducted one person at Grand, Monticello, and Division at 8:30 a.m. this morning.

Earlier this week, Intelligencer ran a piece called "ICE Won." We definitely don't agree with the title, but its gist—that the normalization of federal police violence is accelerating—is proving accurate. ICE arrests roughly doubled in Chicagoland in June over May. Some more thoughts on that:

Police just arrested two more people. Unclear why, presumably for being outside the designated free speech zone.

Video shared to social media by rapid response shows ICE agents abducting a man this A.M. from inside the Bridgeview Courthouse. Outside, Cook County Sheriff’s deputy Gigliotti #19013 daps it up with one of the agents. Asked about IL law preventing arrests at courthouses, deputy Glover shrugs.

Agents returned to the Kane County Judicial Center on Monday, June 15. The same skull-masked agent who was seen brandishing a baton at onlookers to the May 31 detainment, was on Monday videotaped breaking a person's car window while agents conducted another arrest.

We collated reports from various rapid response groups, showing that between May 11 and June 15, agents detained at least 80 people across the Chicago area: 38 in Chicago proper and 42 in the suburbs. Federal agents were most busy in the midweek, with detainments spiking on Wednesdays.

The resident who shared the video, Edward Krueger, also provided a photo of the crashed red car. We arrived on scene hours later, after 2 pm. But signs of the collision were still evident.

Earlier today rapid responders reported federal agents detaining someone on Grace & Olcott in Chicago. A nearby resident got video of an unmarked SUV striking a red car at high speed in the residential area around 10:24 am. He then described seeing men in tactical vests on scene, one marked "ICE."

March 10th

Federal immigration agents are still swamping Chicagoland. Sightings in multiple city neighborhoods and in the suburbs today, with reports of at least three people being taken. "ICE is everywhere," the immigrant advocacy/rapid response group Hijos de Migrantes posted in an alert earlier today.
