"We make the dragons as we make the gods, because we need them, because, somewhere deep in our hearts, we recognize that a world without them is a world not worth living in." – R. A. Salvatore
Today I am obsessesing over the covers of E. R. Eddison's "The Worm Ouroboros" and later Zimiamvian Trilogy illustrated by native midwesterner Barbara Remington. Just an absolutely phenomenal house style for Ballantine Books.
This immediately put me in mind of The Leaves by The Radical Face- all except the skeleton man. Apologies if this isn't it!
Goblin Hill Posting: I truly wish for Goblin Hill to take on the mood of these bucolic but somewhat sinister-looking photographs of Taliesin from the Nelson Archives depicting the house as it was in the 1930s.
"Oh im afraid I'm not a writer young lady. I am merely an imaginer. I started with maladaptive day dreams of oc amvs and... now I have all this."
"And there's the dawn, poured out like wine Along the dim horizon line. And from the city comes the chimes -- We have our heaven on earth -- sometimes!" -The City Revisited, Stephen St Vincent Benet. View of Arm 02, Platform 01, Elysium.
The blender experiments continue. I rendered this ruined chimney stack to use as reference in an illustration!
It's #PortfolioDay up on Goblin Hill! 🍂✨ Images from these distant hills include book covers & illustrations for the discerning customer looking for textured, rich, and liminal works for their #fantasybooks, #tabletopgames, #cardart, and #characterart! 🌝
"They suspected he had no heart." – R. Sabatini, 'Scaramoushe'

"The moon was a golden coin flicked carelessly into a tomb of stars."
Further sketches of Gryffon, solidifying and parsing down designs and trying on some expressions.
NO AI! Every illustration drawn in procreate and hand-distressed. Every word, every fragment, every bit of ephemera crafted bespoke. Hand bound and hand tooled.
𝕿𝖔 𝕮𝖆𝖑𝖑 𝕱𝖔𝖗𝖙𝖍 𝕾𝖍𝖆𝖉𝖔𝖜𝖘 𝕱𝖗𝖔𝖒 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕯𝖆𝖗𝖐 cw: ritual self harm. I revisited an old OLD story about a gay teenager who becomes enthralled by a book of power that promises it can make the boy he's in limerence with like him back. Significantly more grim than my usual bent.
I try not to be a braggart but given the ten years of wage depression I've endured, this is worth it.
I often say to artist colleagues I wear my influences on my sleeve, but other times I stay mum on it. But in this instance I have no problem admitting that this image by Walt McDougall inspired an old mansion full of mimics for a tabletop game.
Honey, after hearing me say it in my voice you'll never be able to say the name of the band "Depeche Mode" the same way again.
