Based on my understanding, there's a "ruh-roh" here-- Capitalization is like hustling backwards compared to Equity unless you KNOW the company isn't worth the balance sheets. Just public estimation. We employ the resource-based view and political institutional theory to argue that MNCs with strong domestic political connections can enhance the value created by internalizing the transfer of firm-specific advantages in foreign markets. Our findings suggest that US MNCs with domestic political connections realize more significant value gains from internalization than those without such connections. Additionally, we show that US MNCs’ ability to exploit domestic political capital in foreign markets differs across countries, with significant value gains arising only from internalizing intangible advantages in countries with similar institutions or friendly political relations with the US. We highlight the importance of domestic political connections in the context of multinationality and shed light on the institutional factors that influence MNCs’ ability to exploit these connections overseas.
