Oh my! What a charming gentleman. We recently adopted two cats, one of whom (Rufus) has similar colouring. However, Pipkin seems an intelligent fellow. Rufus is...less so.

In vitally important news, we have now named our new cats, and so a proper introduction is required. Please say hello to Rufus (male, b&w) and Talisker (female, calico). They are six months old, brother and sister, complete chaos goblins, and we are itterly in love.

We lost our cat Grizelda just before xmas. Two pics attached, your choice which to go with.

This Monday we found out that what we thought was stress was actually an incredibly aggressive, advanced cancer. She had days to live. We had to put her to sleep on Thursday. We did so at home, and have buried her in our back garden. Today we put a cherry tree there to remember her.
She did not get on with other animals. I have a photo somewhere of her staring down a fox in our back yard in London, and she nearly got carried away by a seagull in the garden pictured here. (A Dundee seagull mind you, and those things are huge) But she was kind, and caring, and she was family.
We realised this at 6am when we got up. We surveyed the damage, and a proud, unapologectic cat. looked at each other, and simultanously went. "...maybe she did get into the guinea pig's cage after all?" Suddenly, her name felt even more fitting.
Grizzles had an auto-immune condition and had a highly restricted diet, so we kept our food away. We kept the čvartci sealed tight in a tupperware container on a high shelf. The next morning. Carnage. Not only had she knocked it down, she'd opened a sealed container and eaten half the contents.
She quickly settled in, and when the lockdown started, she became an absolute lifesaver. I can honestly say our relationship would have struggled if we didn't both bond so closely with her. But before that, while we were still getting to know her, we got a gift. Homemade Čvartci. Pork scratchings.
After a couple of days, we start to get a feel for her character. We run through hundreds of different names and settle on 'Grizelda'. No idea where it came from, but it seemed to stick. Later, I realise i'd been listening to 'Work Work' by @clppng.bsky.social and it's a ref. to Griselda Blanco.
The children had complained. The cat was returned. Nothing was said, but it was implied. They must have left the cage open. Who can blame the cat? Had to make sure we wouldn't do the same. We laughed, left, and then took a terrified cat home on public transport. She did not enjoy the journey.
