With LA museum openings continuing to be a major theme of 2026, there is a major opening for an intrepid investigative journalist to dig into what is (not) happening at LA’s oldest, now shuttered museum: the Southwest Museum of the American Indian in Mount Washington.

Come on by Southeast Los Angeles Open Streets! Swing by the Puente Fest Hub on the Clara St Bridge in Cudahy. That’s where you’ll find me with cool inflatables, a roadway redesign demonstration, and a giant heron inflatable! Today from 9-2! 🚲🚶 ⚽️

The roadway is very narrow, but folks like to drive up there and park for the very nice 360° view. The problem seems to be that Kite Hill is too narrow for any street parking and is designated a No Parking zone, but, bc this area is hard to reach, is difficult to enforce and cars block the roadway.

Drinking, drug use, illicit behavior, gang activity, graffiti, fireworks, noise - the list goes on. Neighbors are concerned and vocal about what goes on in a pretty, central, but vulnerable natural location at night in the heart of Mount Washington called “Kite Hill,” but solutions are lacking.

Crowdsourcing time. As part of my position on the ASNC, I have frequently heard complaints about a narrow roadway in Mount Washington that has amazing 360° but is often the site of bad behavior and public nuisance.
