Got asked for clothing refs for Sōkū, so let me put it out here. Look at Shintoist priest garb! But feel free to deviate from them, as this is an isolated temple with its own traditions (as evidenced by female priests which would have been seen as outdated/ahead of its time at the time of the story)

At the time of its discovery, the shrine had fallen into ruin as the wooden beams rotted in the humid climate. A single structure was still standing, containing some of the temple’s statues and treasures. Today, only these documents and several photos from the 1952 survey remain.

"But he would not accept it. He attempted to flee, leaving his Omikuji tied in the temple lest fate follow him. It took the three of us to bring him back and force him within Shinchū’s soft shell. We pray he may be the last. The faithful need hope to come back.”
“Only three of us are left. Those who lost their faith have left the temple. The rest of us have continued uniting with the Child to no avail. Today, it was Tōji’s turn to read his fortune in the Omikuji, and he was awarded the Great Blessing of becoming one with the Child...
“Many faithful have left. They are afraid they will be chosen next, they are angry towards the Child who is taking their loved ones. They say the disappearances will cause suspicion, that someone will discover the shrine and, full of envy, will kill Shinchū’s young siblings, who are yet unready.”
“The older faithful of the shrine recall the elder siblings of Shinchū. How a single soul would suffice, how they would grow into beautiful Gods. Yet the Child refuses ascension, and we dwindle. Her Father does not guide us, blind as he is in his old age. I fear his spirit readies to depart.”
“O Spirits, why must you test our faith so? The Child Shinchū has absorbed one more of us, yet she will not grow into a God. Elder priest Tōji says we must keep waiting. That the Child still hungers. And yet, nineteen people has she taken into itself and her shell will not harden.”
In 1952, an abandoned shrine was found in the Wakayama prefecture of Japan. This temple, known as Rabu Shrine (羅父神宮), had signs of occupation as late as the 1920s. These documents, including postcards and manuscripts by the priest Sōkū (桑空), were recovered at the site:

In recent years, moths from the genus Superbia have adapted a new camouflage strategy. Instead of emerging at night, they come out of their pupal stage all at once during parades and demonstrations in June. They use vivid displays to blend in and find each other in a space safe from harm.
The oldest known instance of the "Cool S", a symbol of unknown origin, on a tenth century Viking runestone. This sigil has persisted through the centuries and is still found today. Scholars believe its origin is unrelated to the letter S, and that it may have originally been part of a ritual.
The ones in the first pic had extensible grabby things and they would pinch you! And the one on the second pic snuck up while I was distracted, stole my sunglasses and had me chase him around to get them back! He ended up putting them on another random man's face. Lots of trickery and merriment.
These bull devils, covered in tar, would also go around chasing people and touching their face with their hands to stain them. Notice the people in the background of the second picture
A fun thing about these is that most masks come with a mischievous character! These two started arguing me with me (all in jest), saying I couldn't take photos of them without permission. Meanwhile, a third guy with a sack (in blue behind them) snuck up behind me and threw ash all over my pants
According to Asturian legends, a creature called Pesadiellu haunts people in their sleep. It will stand atop you, pressing down on your chest to cause suffocation and nightmares. As soon as you wake, it will vanish.

As soil erosion intensifies, invasive species like the Trapdoor Plant (Nepenthes decipula) are on the rise. These carnivorous plants grow into large underground chambers filled with digestive acid, camouflaged by a large leaf that acts like a hatch. Some grow large enough to capture grown humans.
