Verd's doing a science! While AM radio broadcasts are normal and expected things to see bounce off the stratosphere and be caught by DXers across the world, VHF television signals usually have a 100 mile range. In 64 to 66 Dutch viewers caught Riga television about 1000 miles away somehow!

Lots to debate on what to do about memorials like this, but it was by far one of the quietest places in the city. Dogs being walked and proof of people sledding and walking on the burial pits. The plaques don't shy from the local perpetrators but clearly the population tries to move on from it.(3/3)
Here the Soviets commemorated the site in the late 80s with a new one built after the collapse, as the Jewish character of many of the victims was glossed over. The new memorial places unmarked headstones at each mass grave. Latvians love to sled, walk dogs, and build snowmen by these sites. (2/3)
Well, I didnt detour from an IKEA trip after wrapping up work at a museum to *not* takes photos. Injury came after I walked the hauntingly beautiful memorial park in the outskirts of Riga where around 35k people (mostly Jews) were shot in the forest after being held in the nearby ghetto. (1/3)
