Hairdresser's today - and I forgot how quick it is if you don't have your hair coloured OR blow-dried. It cuts the price in half as well. If I wasn't already sold on the idea of going grey, this would persuade me!
Tesco has been closed for a few weeks, and today I saw the doors were open but there was boarding inside. Apparently almost half the store is open now - maybe Marks & Spencer was taking all their trade? In other news, I'm cautiously optimistic about my back feeling a bit better 🤞
I have the osteopath this morning, to hopefully fix my back for a while, so I'm doing things another way round. I've already posted my sister's birthday present, plus it's weirdly cool (I'm wearing my leather jacket) and my elderly brain can't cope with this level of different, and may implode...
Writing went slowly this morning. Had to rewrite the end of a chapter - I wanted to explain less, and leave the reader guessing. My back is a bit better today, and I have an appointment with my osteopath for tomorrow, so fingers crossed I'm fixed soon and can resume exercise.
Killing time before the shops open. Good thing I've got ahead with my writing this week, as I've just had to scrap half a chapter and start over in a different place. Back still sore, but I think it might now be only the irritated muscles rather than anything deeper. Hurts just as much, though!
Happy Pride! Went into town to do some writing and see our little pride parade. The mayor and her party were walking in the middle, and looked really out of place, but I appreciated that they were there. Our local rock choir were there in force, and provided the soundtrack.
Look! Husband and I BOTH get a tiny table! Writing going so well that rather than stop and watch a film last night (my plan) I wrote loads instead. Have just ordered more notebooks (I like only the Rifle Paper Co spiral bound) and bought more Parker refills...
Tea with husband. Happy news - I've written 30,000 words and all my protagonists are in terrible trouble. Only another 90,000 words to go! Bad news - my back has stayed 'a bit better' and is not fixed 🤬
Tea with husband. Back starting to feel a bit better today - I can stand up straight and walking doesn't hurt, although it's not quite right. Have written my science scene, and sent off to my friend to tell me I've still misunderstood everything he was telling me 😆
Had to bring my research with me for today's writing - no writing happened last night, because I was researching Victorian microscopes, realised I had no idea what I was reading, and had to talk at length with one of my science friends instead. In other news, my back is no better yet (grumble).
Great afternoon with daughter and her girlfriend. This is a picture of them simultaneously checking our two copies of the rules for an obscure point. Nice flower on the way back - no idea what it is, sorry.
What is more daunting than the blank page? A blank page, starting a new chapter, with a change of character! Not a funny joke, but so, so true..
This IS still the same coffee shop as normal, but the CEO apparently came in and said 'my' table had to be changed for a small round one, and the sofas had to be ditched for hard chairs. Good thing he didn't ditch my comfy battered armchair, or I'd be going elsewhere!
Tea with husband - first time this week we could both make it at the same time. We spent ages putting the world to rights, and being angry about injustice. Now I haven't got much time to write!
Needed some new walking/ gym trainers, so walked out to the retail park, up a hot hill 🥵 Saw new flowers, bought cheap (but comfortable) trainers with memory foam, and now drinking well deserved tea in a new place.
Yesterday, two vans and lots of men came and dug a massive hole in our pavement - no idea what for. Now it is just left like this. A sign saying why would be nice!
Much cooler today, and overcast - I even wore my cardigan on the walk in. Please understand me, under NO circumstances could this be considered a complaint - no, please let it stay like this for a good long time!
Waiting in M&S until the tills open. Browsing from 10:15 is great, but I've had to tell loads of people who didn't get the memo about the tills not opening until then!
Had to recharge my fan in order to come out today - it's been getting a LOT of use recently. Slightly cooler today, though - roll on tomorrow!
These are a huge help for getting me through the week - homemade orange ice lollies. Each is half a large orange-worth of squeezed juice, so no additives, and few calories. Husband makes them, bless him. It's stopping me eating ALL THE ICE-CREAM, knowing that I've got these to come back to...
Yes, there IS air conditioning here, but it's not working as well at the back of the shop, so I've brought my fan to give me a boost for the hot flushes 🥵
Now sure if the air conditioning is on or not - sometimes I freeze in here, but it's definitely cooler than outside. Either way, I hope today's writing goes better than yesterday's, as my brains are very slow in the heat.
This is how I'm surviving my trip to the audiologist today - milkshake and a parasol.
They've deployed the air conditioning in the coffee shop today, and I've had to put my emergency cardigan on - well, at least until the next hot flush 😆
Husband will not be joining me all this week, I reckon, as he has given up on trying to work at home, and has fled for the air conditioning of the office.
Half a gym set done for this morning, now to change for my Zumba class, but already I am destroyed! The ancient air conditioning here can't keep up with this heat, plus I'm so tired from the little sleep I managed last night. Curse you, fossil fuel companies, making this the norm for summer 🤬
Writing is happening easily today, partly to beat the heat, and partly because family are coming over for board games this afternoon. Left husband getting his week's cooking out of the way rather than cook when it's already hot...
