Opera’s current business model *is* that it is being propped on life support. We got here not because no one cares about opera anymore, but because of poor stewardship on the part of its producing organizations and gatekeepers. And we ignore this at our peril. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/stewardship/
Empathy is a practice. The well-wishing mantras that appear throughout my blog post this week are drawn from my version of metta practice, also called loving-kindness meditation. You say or think the words, and notice what arises within you in response to them. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/empathy/
Any time you take a moment to try and imagine what someone else is going through, any time you find yourself resonating with someone else’s misfortune or someone else’s joy, you are cultivating empathy. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/empathy/ Empathy is a practice.
EMPATHY new blog post “Empathy” is a word that has lately been receiving rather casual treatment in public discourse, like we’re all in agreement about what it means… but perhaps we aren’t. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/empathy/

When for-profits hire paid instrumentalists but engage volunteer choruses, they miss an opportunity to employ professional singers who need the work. I am also loathe to deprive volunteer choristers of meaningful opportunities, but pro singers need work. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/resistance-p...
RESISTANCE, PART 1: GRAVITY blog.liberatedvoice.studio/resistance-p... Resistance training is a dance with gravity. Practiced mindfully, it can enhance the quality, power, range and expressive potential of all our movements. Photos are from Equinox's current Commit to Something marketing campaign.
COMPLICITY new blog post My thoughts on Westworld, predation in Opera World, and how to combat the dehumanization behavior of the Black Hats in the Real World. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/complicity/
What is tongue tension? If you are dealing with some tongue tension that is messing with your singing or speaking voice, the first step in alleviating that tension is understanding how it was created in the first place. youtube.com/shorts/KLgY8...
Salt Lake City has some new official flags! The Utah state legislature recently prohibited the display of most flags. The list of the only flags still allowed includes the flags of local cities. So the city of Salt Lake created some new official flags. Malicious compliance ftw!
If you feel uncomfortable pressure in your throat while singing, you are probably generating the degree of breath pressure required to override some manner of supraglottal resistance, not supplying the degree of breath pressure required for healthy phonation. blog.liberatedvoice.studio/breath/
It's not just the MAGAs. I only ever see a couple of Dems campaigning on a baseline quality of life for all Americans. They're afraid they won't win elections if they do. So our country continues to run on the underpaid labor of the working poor, while those unable to work continue to languish.
please please sit down @schumer.senate.gov and make room for actual leadership
Whenever Trump says "it's not a big deal," you have append, "to me personally." Like how whenever Triumph the Insult Comic Dog says that something is good, he then appends, "for me to poop on!"

The egg-decorating kits now line the shelves at my pharmacy, and this one is the perfect metaphor for where we are right now. Wasting food that is more expensive than it should be, dressing it up like hippy, for a weird ritual designed to bring all the kiddies home to Daddy the Father.
Imagine watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and when the Child Catcher comes on, going "That's what I want to be when I grow up!"
