In some cases, its me interpreting it as its pointing forward, in other cases I make it smaller to give her a softer look. But yeah nah, Kasumi got a N64 Link dagger on her face.

The Amazing Digital Circus - The Last Act / EP9: Remember I really gave this one thought. Rewatched the series leading up to the YT release, discussed it with close buddies. This finale gets worse the more you think about it. I wish the show had a 2nd season before wrapping up. +ALT

Let me be clear with what i'm saying; I think The Amazing Digital Circus as a whole is a very good indie show. It has a lot of cool ideas, visual flair and characters I was very invested in. Like others depending on how much you connected with certain characters, your mileage will depend on if this finale satisfies what you think needed to be done.

For me personally, the initial wow of the finale wore off quick when I started analyzing it. I'm not a bright person, but I also wouldn't call myself media illiterate as some folks like to throw around when criticizing this finale, but yeah anyways (Spoilers from this point)

I find the reveal of the characters being brain scans pretty expected, and I'd hoped they do more with this. They're now in a spot where they know they cannot leave and have to make the best of it. I think a story trying to convey that a stagnant life isn't so bad is pretty mature! However things start to slowly unravel for me when a lot of things in the finale begin to feel like second thoughts or outright glossed over; Especially when the latter half of the episode delves deeper into Jax.

I don't think the episode wasted its time diving that deep into Jax's mind, but I wish the episode was longer to further go into getting closure for other characters. This episode has a nasty habit of wanting to make you feel sympathy for this character, when we're fed his worse case scenario thoughts, one of which is very vile in hindsight in regards to Gangle, and memory recollections that has all but been said Jax mistreating two of his friends to a point of driving them to abstraction (this shows very clear metaphor for suicide/mental collapse.)

This combined with lore important details like Scratch not being super touched upon, Ragatha's full perspective on her two friends abstractions, and much much more; This show really could have been an extra season longer and it would have been all for the better (1/2)

$I'm very aware that not every character can get the same amount of screen time, but I genuinely feel earlier episodes painted this different perspective that this show was going to really play its deck to the fullest. Instead, the ending feels rushed and somewhat mangled. On the topic of Jax's focus, for as much buildup as there was to him potentially abstracting, to have that as a cut away seemed inappropriate almost narratively. Constantly being told that despite everything, they wouldn't let him wander off to succumb to his thoughts, told to be there, to make it clear that 'the worst thing you could ever do is make someone feel unwanted,' they cut straight passed a pivotal moment. I felt the same way with the slideshow at the end being the casts' closure in general rather than the icing on the cake. Especially in regards to Gangle. I find it particularly strange to frequently remind us that she was hit by a truck, and put into extreme critical condition and not addressing that further beyond she got better. It would of been interesting to explore the potential of her appearance in the circus was due to wanting to preserve her in some way if she was expected to not make it; A continuation of a plot thread Kinger mentions of Scratch wanting to preserve himself due to his brain tumor. TLDR: I genuinely wish the show was longer. This isn't even a big fraction of my issues with how this effects my view of the rest of the show. I still love it, but idk. Oh well I suppose. Please give it a watch and form your own opinions ofc.$
