JMA reports that at Asosan on 9 July there was an occurrence of large amplitude volcanic tremor followed by more LP tremors. A 900 plume rose over Nakadake 1 crater, and the SO2 flux on 10 July was 1300 tons/day, somewhat high for this volcano. Source (Japanese): www.data.jma.go.jp/vois/data/re...

Activity:
Constant degassing is observed over the Caliente dome, reaching a height of 400 meters and dispersing westward. Weak to moderate explosions were recorded, with a gas and ash column up to 800 meters above the dome, dispersing to the west. During the night and early morning, incandescence can be observed on the dome's dome and its western and southwestern flanks, resulting from recurring avalanches descending these flanks. The possibility of pyroclastic density currents cannot be ruled out; therefore, it is necessary to follow the recommendations in special bulletin BESAN-002-2026. In the event of rain in the volcanic perimeter, weak to moderate lahars may occur along the riverbeds on the southern flank (Nima, Tambor, Cabello de Angel, among others); therefore, it is necessary to follow the recommendations in special bulletin BESAN-012-2026.

SUMMARY OF THE VOLCANO'S STATUS FOR THE REFERENCE MONTH AND ASSESSMENTS

1) SEISMOLOGY: In the Campi Flegrei area, 377 earthquakes were recorded (Mdmax=3.6±0.3), of which 253 were located. They occurred mainly between Pozzuoli, Agnano, the Solfatara-Pisciarelli area, Bagnoli, and the Gulf of Pozzuoli, with depths mostly concentrated in the first 3 km and a maximum depth of about 4 km.

2) DEFORMATIONS: Since April 2025, ground uplift has been recorded with a monthly average value of about 15±3 mm/month until the beginning of October. From October 10, 2025, an increase in the ground uplift rate was observed, with an average monthly uplift of about 25±3 mm/month. From mid-December 2025, a decrease in the uplift rate was recorded, with an average monthly rate of about 15±3 mm/month. Since the beginning of February 2026, a further decrease in uplift rate has been observed, with an average monthly rate of about 10±3 mm/month. The uplift recorded at the RITE GNSS station is about 166.5 cm since November 2005, of which about 28.5 cm is since January 2025. Variations at tilt stations and tide gauges are consistent with the uplift phase affecting the area.

3) THERMOGRAPHY: Time series of maximum surface temperatures recorded by the permanent TIR camera network show essentially stable trends at Solfatara, and slight increases in the Pisciarelli area and the Agnano-via Antiniana area. Measurements with mobile thermal cameras and drones carried out at various points in the Campi Flegrei show fairly stable trends.

4) GEOCHEMISTRY: The composition of the fumaroles and monitored parameters indicate the continuation of multi-year trends of heating and pressurization of the hydrothermal system, which reached a peak in July 2020, then reversed until the early months of 2022, when a new increasing trend began and is still ongoing. The CO2 flux from the ground measured only in the target area inside Solfatara shows one of the lowest values recorded in recent months, estimated at about 1000 t/d, still a high value comparable to those measured in the plume of actively degassing volcanoes.

In light of the monitoring data, the following is noted:
1) Crater fumarole temperatures: The temperature values recorded in June continue the downward trend.
2) CO2 flux in the crater area: CO2 flux in the crater area at an average level.
3) SO2 flux in the crater area: SO2 flux at an average level.
4) Geochemistry of the fumarolic gases: The magmatic contribution in the fumarolic steam remains unchanged compared to the previous month.
5) CO2 flux at the base of the La Fossa cone and in the Vulcano Porto area: The monitoring stations at the base of the cone do not show significant changes.
6) Geochemistry of the thermal aquifers: Temperature values remain constant, the upward trend of Bambara's conductivity continues.
7) Local seismicity: Low rate of local microseismic activity.
8) Regional seismicity: No earthquakes with a local magnitude of 1.0 or higher have been recorded.
9) Deformations - GNSS: No significant changes to report.
10) Deformations - Clinometry: No significant changes to report.
11) Gravimetry: No significant changes have been recorded.

In light of the monitoring data, the following stands out:
1) VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: Ordinary strombolian eruptive activity at both crater areas, associated with spattering of variable intensity in the North Crater Area. The frequency of total explosive activity, including the North Crater Area and the Central-South Crater Area, is at a medium level with medium explosive intensity in both the North and Central-South Crater Areas.
2) SEISMOLOGY: The monitored seismological parameters show no significant changes.
3) GROUND DEFORMATIONS: No significant changes are detected in the GNSS network time series.
4) GEOCHEMISTRY: SO2 flux is at a medium level. CO2 flux from the soil (Pizzo Area - STR02): No updates. C/S ratio in the plume: average values over the past week. Helium isotopic ratio (R/Ra) remains close to very high values (R/Ra = 4.48). CO2 flux from the soil in the San Bartolo area remains at very high levels.
5) SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS: Thermal activity observed from satellites in the summit area has generally been low, with a few isolated moderate-level anomalies.

$According to the monitoring data, the following is noted: 1) VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: Effusive activity from the eruptive vent at 3030 m above sea level, effusive activity from a vent located at about 3200 m asl between the Voragine crater and the Northeast crater; Strombolian activity with volcanic ash emissions from the Voragine crater; Strombolian activity with volcanic ash emissions and effusive activity from an active eruptive fissure between the eastern rim of the Voragine crater and the Northeast crater in a NNE direction. 2) SEISMOLOGY: Very low fracturing seismic activity; no events above the threshold of Ml>=2.0. Average amplitude of volcanic tremor almost consistently at high values. 3) INFRASOUND: Infrasound activity variable between low and very high levels. 4) GROUND DEFORMATIONS: During the reference week, deformation monitoring networks did not detect significant changes, except for the high-precision signals from the ECP station (borehole clinometer sensor in the summit area) and DRUV (borehole dilatometer sensor in a deep hole), which showed modest variations on July 5. 5) GEOCHEMISTRY: SO2 flux at an average level and increasing CO2 flux from the ground (Etnagas): at average values Partial pressure of dissolved CO2 in the aquifer (EtnaAcque Network): no updates. He isotopic ratio at peripheral sites: at average values (latest data July 6, 2026). 6) SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS: In the past week, the thermal activity observed by satellite in the summit area has been at a moderate level, with values from high to very high corresponding to the effusive activity that started on June 26, 2026, ended on July 4, 2026, and the eruptive activity that started on July 5, 2026. 7) OTHER OBSERVATIONS: The preliminary data from the ash samples, released by the active explosive vents between the Voragine Crater and the Northeast Crater on July 5, show a predominance of a very fine grain fraction and the lithic component.$

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etna Observatory, reports that around 05:45 UTC, ash emissions began from the vent on the upper eastern flank of the Voragine crater. These emissions intensified around 06:45, producing an eruptive cloud about 1.5 km above the volcano's summit, moving toward the S and SSE sectors. Forecast models based on weather data indicate ash dispersion to the south in the coming hours. In recent days, Strombolian activity continued at the vent on the Voragine flank, while the effusive activity from the vent at 3030 m a.s.l., which began on June 26, gradually dwindled and ended on July 4. Additionally, during the night of July 2-3, a second small lava flow formed from a point between the Strombolian vent and the effusive vent, traveling just over a hundred meters before stopping on the morning of July 3. The average amplitude of the volcanic tremor remains high, showing a constant increasing trend. Since yesterday, this trend has included strong fluctuations in values, which in the last few hours have become wider. At 06:30 UTC, the maximum tremor amplitude for this eruptive episode was recorded. The centroid location of the tremor sources remains in the Voragine crater area, at an elevation of around 3000 meters above sea level. Infrasound activity is currently low, both in terms of the number of events and released energy, but in the past few hours, there were periods of intense activity that reached very high levels. The sources are located in the Voragine crater area, but weak activity was also observed at the Northeast Crater in recent hours. Deformation monitoring networks currently show no significant changes. It is noted that from 05:45 UT, variations are observed at the summit clinometric station ECPN (about 0.3 microradians until 07:30 UT) and at the dilatometric station DRUV (decompression of about 8 nanostrain until 07:00 UT). Further updates will be communicated promptly.
