this is a good move, despite the outrage about meritocracy that will inevitably ensue. there are a lot of reasons why grades impede learning. if we want to get away from rampant careerism, we could do worse than getting rid of grades for a start. this is a 2017 article, but worth skimming:

same here. i adopted universal design principles across my classes. and i want to be clear: i get why students cheat. there’s no meaningful disincentive and careerism is killing things like curiosity and creativity. i’m still angry and exhausted. and i’ve gone back to an analog classroom.
