To support Mexico after last night's World Cup match, watched AVENTURERA (1950) starring Ninón Sevilla. Seeing her in VICTIMS OF SIN (1951) with a packed house at Noir City San Francisco is a moviegoing highlight, and AVENTURERA is every bit as jaw-dropping. Both are on Criterion Channel.

Recently read that THROW DOWN (2004) is Johnnie To's favorite of his films, and I can see why. An oddball mix of comedy, melodrama, and sports movie (judo) that's also a tribute to the early films of Akira Kurosawa. I kinda loved it.
