Campaign mailer from Congressman Dan Goldman, D. He's from NY-10 which covers lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. He's currently got a decent opponent for his seat in the primary in Brad Lander, who was endorsed by Mayor Mamdani.

The flier reads: "Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu should never have started the war in Iran. They must end it now."

To date, Dan Goldman has accepted over $612k from various Israel lobbing groups.

This passage from "One day everyone will have always been against this" is about the most eloquent way to explain why I will not vote for these people again

Of course the Republicans would be worse. What the mainstream Democrat seems incapable of accepting is that, for an even remotely functioning conscience, there exists a point beyond which relative harm can no longer offset absolute evil. For a lot of people, genocide is that point. Suddenly, an otherwise very persuasive argument takes on a different meaning: "Vote for the liberal though he harms you because the conservative will harm you more" starts to sound a lot like "Vote for the liberal though he harms you because the conservative might harm me, too."

In reality, not a single Western politician or party, not a single government anywhere in the world, can be expected to change when constantly rewarded this way. The argument in favor of voting for the lesser evil is frequently made in good faith, by people who have plenty to lose should the greater evil win. But it also establishes the lowest of benchmarks: Want my vote? Be less monstrous than the monsters.

But to say this—that mainstream liberal parties will never develop a moral compass until they are punished for not having one—produces a level of antagonistic vitriol unmatched in almost any other context. Waves of progressives will take time out from pasting MY RELIGION IS LOVE stickers to the bumpers of their Teslas to let you know that advocating this position makes you the enemy, that they hope you’re happy when Trump takes power and makes your life even more miserable, that you should just go back to where you came from.

Chris Paul Hits A Huge 3 To Cut The Lead To 42 refers to a copypasta and reaction image popular among basketball fans. The phrase comes from a YouTube video that joked about Phoenix Suns player Chris Paul hitting a three-pointer in Game 7 of the 2022 Western Conference semifinals with his team down 45 points in the 4th quarter, making the shot essentially meaningless. The phrase and a screenshot of the video have been used to joke about basketball players and others contributing to a cause that's already well out of reach.

In a statement, Schatz called his vote a “difficult and close call” but said he ultimately “made the determination that a flawed bill was better than no bill at all.”

“I understand people’s frustration — I share it,” he said. “But Trump and the Republicans, who control both chambers of Congress, presented us with a bad choice and a worse choice. Both would produce terrible outcomes, but a shutdown would be more devastating for everyone.”

Referencing the opposition to his vote from progressives, he added that Democrats “can’t let disagreements about strategy and tactics divide us.” Schatz has served in the Senate since Dec. 2012, easily winning re-election to a second full term in 2022.

Overall, Republicans were the more serious party at these hearings. The committee chairman, Senator Roger Wicker, did note that we live in the most dangerous security environment since World War II. Senator Tim Sheehy did mention shipbuilding. Senator Ted Budd did ask about warplanes. Senator Eric Schmitt did ask about drones.

If you’re a Democrat trying to sink a nomination, you would think you’d want to ask substantive questions on life-or-death issues like these in order to expose the nominee’s ignorance and unpreparedness.

But did this happen at the Pete Hegseth hearings in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee this week? If you thought those kinds of questions would dominate the hearings, you must be living under the illusion that we live in a serious country.
