Can't believe I forgot the tenth anniversary of this tweet yesterday.

A tweet from July 13, 2016, saying "now just hear me out, okay?" over a map of a hypothetical Toronto Island Subway: a red line running from Ward's Island ferry dock to Gibraltar Point, with a single intermediate stop at Centre Island. No, it does not go to the airport.

My definition vs. nine other people's (so far) definition.

June 25, 1973. Freiman's famously ran a special Santa Claus excursion train from Ottawa out to the village of Vars and back every Christmas season from 1956 until 1972. Thousands of kids every year got to ride the train, and many of them still remember it fondly.

Last weekend I was visiting Lower City Joinery in Hamilton (www.lowercityjoinery.com) and I asked how old their machine tools were. Turns out some of them are over 120 years old!

A view into a high-ceilinged wood shop, with various large machine tools including a drill press and band saw on the left and a large table saw in the centre of the room. Arthur Read the Aardvark from the eponymous animated series, sits at a piano while wearing headphones, however the earpieces from the headphones sit where a human's ears would be, on the sides of his head, rather than where his actual ears are, on the top. The resulting image looks very incongruous.

Grew up in Ottawa, moved to Toronto for university and spent years adjusting to the water and the downtown being south instead of north, then moved to Kingston, where to this day I still sometimes get turned around.

Assuming a southern corridor, I think it would be smarter to diverge east from the existing Ottawa-Smiths Falls line and cross over the CPKC tracks east of the Smiths Falls Yard.

I still remember the proposed northern connection that would have joined the top of the Yonge line to the top of the University-Spadina line and made it into a big distorted loop.
