We love books, dogs in bookshops, and customers who laugh at our jokes
Bus reading between branches today. So far got to say - believe the hype. It's delightful. No idea where its going, looking forward to finding out.
Can't lie, one of the very best things about being a bookseller is when you get your hands on an arc for a book you're seriously excited about. Grinning like the Cheshire cat over this one.
Thoroughly exciting new arc to read. The pumpkins are ripening, cosy season is coming, and so are the witch books. Favourite time of year?
@orbitbooks.bsky.social so excited to be reading this at last- the first one was 2025s comfort read, and 2 chapters in I think this one will be even better
Excellent list this year. Personally excited to readthe Infamous Gilberts - thats gone tight up the TBR pile, May We Feed The King is intriguing me too. Anyone else got any recommendations or particularly keen on one of these?
Get yourself colleagues who ask your favourite authors to sign and dedicate books you love. Thank you @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social for signing! All Hail Chaos is brilliant
What does a booksellers immediate TBR pile look like? Mine is fast getting out of control (and almost fell over when I stacked them to take thus). These are most of the books I've bought and been sent in the last month or so. The actually read pile is significantly shorter
Lucy is a delightful cat to meet on your way to or from work
Obviously needed 2 new Scandi cookbooks- and so do you (you do, you know you do). Also need to source kholrabi somewhere in Leicester...
Celebration of Latvian culture in Leicester today, the traditional costumes are beautiful and so was the dancing. Some fancy knitwear on display too which is inspiring ne to look up some pattern books
And now to tackle Naomi Mitchison. Have failed at this before, but optimistic this time
Anyone want a puffin video to celebrate puffin day? You're getting one regardless
The most glorious window by Poonam Mistry in place to celebrate her new book The Bear and the Seed. Her artwork is stunning, these are seriously gorgeous books people
Lovely to meet the cities own Manish Chauhan - signed copies of Belgrave Road now in stock. This is a special book for us, Leicester isn't over represented in literature
New Uketsu has landed, Strange Buildings is here
If there is something I love more than a new cookbook its a fancy proof. Thank you @panmacnews.bsky.social can't wait to read this one
There's not much I love more than a new cookbook, and this one looks amazing
The incredibly lovely Hannah Lowther came in today to sign copies of her book Les Quizerables (flipping brilliant), she's also in Legally Blonde at the Curve. We have a couple of signed copies now
Day off, not actually raining, so took the time to visit Leicester's guildhall. Free, convenient for the cities best bookshop, lots of places nearby to get coffee - recommended
@markedwardsauthor.bsky.social dropped by today, signed copies of The Wasp Trap now available! He was delightful and the book is getting excellent colleague reviews, come buy it whilst we have the signed editions.
Lazy Sunday morning reading - i like T Kingfisher, I'm intrigued by a book inspired by a love of Terry Pratchett and All Creatures Great amd Small. Not a combination I woukd gave imagined, but 4 chapters in it's delivering on all that promises.
It might be that the natural drink of a bookseller is tea or coffee, but what woukd the perfect booksellers cocktail look like? It absolutely doesn't have a glace cherry staring balefully up out of it unless you're a horror fan
Today's reading has mostly been Parties and Passions - which I'm loving as a collection, highly recommend for something a bit different on the anthology front. And also the Savoy cocktail book. This is a Booksellers Special from the 1930s. It's strong but not particularly inspiring.
Dipping in and out of all the books at the moment, but just about to finish Diana Henry's wonderful Around The Table - lovely essays for all sorts of moods, and just picked up Parties and Passions- a Pan Mac collectors library anthology which looks really promising if parties going wrong appeals
Perfect winter vibes and Christmas ghost stories. If the promised snow actually happens its the perfect book to curl up with
Mostly got books for Christmas & I'm very happy about it. Lifeboat at the End of the World is a review copy that I'm currently reading. It's very good so look out for that in March (if it arrives Christmas week it's a present, yes?). Did you get any books you're particularly excited about yesterday?
Some of the books seeing this bookseller through the Christmas season, some solid Christmas present suggestions in there too, especially for the food and drink fans
