New milestone for #renewables in Europe: #Solar was the bloc’s largest single source of power in June, ahead of nuclear (21%), gas (15%), wind (14%) and hydro (12%), as coal generated just 8%, according to data from the energy thinktank Ember.
Sodium-ion #batteries promise to be cheaper, safer & more environmentally friendly than the lithium-ion cells in #EVs. #CATL — the world’s largest #battery producer — will start mass-producing sodium-ion batteries by the end of the year Read more: www.nature.com/articles/d41... #sodiumionbatteries
The 2026 #Environmental Performance Index is out, ranking 177 countries on 47 environmental indicators. #Estonia ranks #1. European countries hold all but one of the top 20 positions, with #Luxembourg, the #UK, #Finland, and the #Netherlands are top 5. #Laos is bottom, just ahead of #India
#Solar #energy means competition for land, right? WRONG. Besides #agrivoltaics, how about solar panels between #railway tracks@ Sun-Ways installed solar on a 100-metre stretch of railway in western Switzerland, which produced 18.2 MWh of electricity – while 11,000 trains rattled overhead.
Some 400 years after being pushed to local extinction in England, #beavers were introduced to Paradise Fields – a 10-hectare stretch of land – in 2023. They have helped alleviate flooding but also boosted biodiversity: with 4 new species spotted in less that a year Image: Eliot Sachot
It feels like everything is going backwards - and yet the green economy has topped $10tn (£7.6tn) in market value for the first time, according to a report by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). Let's not give up. We are making a difference #greeneconomy www.lseg.com/content/dam/...
For the first time since the Middle Ages #Italy now has more land covered in #forests than farms - over 100,000 sq.kms or 37%. #Nature recovery is mot only possible, it is already happening #naturepositive
Happily we are entering a period where we will see CO2 emissions peak and start to fall in country after around the world. #Australia is the latest to join this exclusive club with carbon emissions shrinking by 2% in 2025, mainly due to a rooftop #solar revolution
Of the 322 #energy projects announced across #Africa in 2025, 173 were #solar projects, followed by #hydropower at 46, #wind at 34, gas at 22 and hybrid energy projects at 14 Source: Electron Intelligence, Photo: Themba Hadebe
Good news for #nature: In a landmark case brought by Client Earth, a Dutch court has ruled that bottom trawling in a marine protected area is unlawful.
#Amsterdam has become the first capital city to outlaw ads for high-carbon products, including meat, flights and internal combustion engine cars. The ban came into force on 1 May following similar moves by other Dutch cities, including The Hague, Utrecht and Delft.

There are very few winners in an oil-war .. Russia, unfortunately, is one .. China may just be another #cleantech #china
As horrific as the Israel-US war on Iran is, I am convinced it is a tipping point for #cleantech in the world - towards #EVs and #renewables especially. Many are suffering and will suffer from the economic chaos Trump is causing, but the irony is that his #oil war will send fossil fuels into decline

Indigenous river defenders are celebrating after winning a David versus Goliath battle against the Brazilian government and corporate giants over plans to industrialise an Amazonian waterway.
This is what happens when we start wars over #oil. We would rather not have them, but when we do, we are speeding the transition to #renewables. Oil companies get a short term boom, but the life expectancy of their industry goes down. I expect the war in #Iran to be the same.
My intention is not to knock the Church, but rather to show how power corrupts. Do you agree?
Our message - calling for a Reformation in business - is as fresh and relevant today as it was when the book was first published; probably more so.
