Planes, travel, food, life. An avgeek disguised as a retired medic 😊
Good morning from a muggy Tokyo! Thunderstorms expected later today....so best to walk around beforehand!
When in Dublin, visiting the Guinness Storehouse is a must! An excellent exhibition on the production of the drink, from ingredients (only 4!) to final product. And you get a free pint in their rooftop bar included in your ticket 😄
My dinner of cauliflower salad, a bottle of red wine and loved what I preseumed to be a fold up tablet/phone holder on the tray table 😄
A few pics from my LIN-LCY flight on BA7304 last week. Cute little E190, didn't realise my bulkhead seat had so much legroom! Passing over beautiful Alps and spotted a Swiss A330 below us somewhere over Switzerland 😊
We went back to Wrest Park in Bedfordshire to see their amazing wisteria and tulips 😍 Beautiful day for it 😊
On my way up to Manchester! Very crowded train. Didn't realise there are 2 big events there this weekend: the marathon and Man City vs Arsenal! No wonder hotel rooms were so expensive and hard to come by when I tried to book last month! Tomorrow's London train will probably be as busy😅
F&B onboard Starlux A359 as JX235. Only a 1h15m flight, but still provided the full service: pre departure drinks and hot towel, full dinner, wine poured separately seat-side, hot drinks after meals and delivering of duty free before descent. Starlux service is many levels above other airlines'!
Some apron shots at Taoyuan Airport a few days ago 😊 Nice to see the special liveried Starlux A350-1000 🥰
Chinese soup was warming and delicious. The chilli bao was good too. I order the dumplings from the a al carte menu. Not bad at all!
This is the much smaller Starlux Galactic Lounge in T1 at TPE. Not space themed like the bigger one in T2, but goes for a simple classy decor instead. Decent selection of tasty food with a small a la carte menu. Toilets are outside. Not busy when I was there.
'Spotting the Landmark' a few days ago on take off from MNL onboard Starlux JX786 to TPE. Lovely views of the airport NAIA, BGC and Makati, The American Cemetery, Manila Golf and Country Club, the confluence point of Pasig and Marikina Rivers, Araneta Stadium with Novotel, where I stayed last time.
Our early evening arrival into London! 🥰 I never get tired of playing 'Spotting the Landmarks' 😅
2nd meal was served some 8hrs after takeoff. I chose the Thai prawn curry with pineapple+eggplant accompanied by okra+tumeric rice. Thought curries would be a safer bet, but it was only average. At least the pineapple was sweet and okra was not overcooked. The Australian Shiraz, which was good.
We were served our lunch not long after takeoff off on CX239 from HKG to LHR. Meal much better than my previous flights on CX! That halibut in scallion butter sauce was tender and flavourful. It is not easy to get fish right onboard! The choc pannecotta was heavenly 🥰
A few shots whilst taxiing to runway 25L at HKG yesterday on CX239. Our plane basically was following this One Air cargo plane from Hong Kong until Kazakhstan, where it landed at Shymkent before heading to Nottingham, whilst we carried on directly to LHR!
It is time for our long daylight flight back to London! After having flown the almost 19hrs JFK-SIN flight, this is nothing really 😉 Let's see how much food I will eat and many movies/ TV series I will watch 😅
Starlux's boarding music reminds me of the old Cathay Pacific one (Love's Theme) by Barry White! Their hooks and lilt seem to have similar undertones 🥰
So fun to check in for your flight in two days' time whilst you are 35000ft up in the air on another flight 😄
Lunch on JX786 today. JX has probably the best meals! Tasty, beautifully presented, quality top notch. That orange+Earl Grey bread tasted like it came fresh from an artisanal bakery! Amadei choc is one of the best. The balsamic for the caprese is the concentrated type. And the wine was superb too 😊
Pagss Lounge in T3 of MNL is compact, but it has good selection of food, with coffee machine and draft beer station. The alcohol selection is basic. The major plus point is its views of runway 13/31!
A bit of apron action at MNL this morning from the Pagss Lounge in Terminal 5. UA190 going to SFO. Cebu Pacific 5J551 going to Cebu. 5J899 pushing back for departure to Caticlan.
I had an accidental trip-and-fall yesterday 😞 Luckily, no broken bones, just painful🤞 Concierge was very helpful. Brought me ice and went out to get me a knee brace! As a precaution, I requested wheelchair for my two flights tomorrow back to HK....a good way to test out Starlux's ground service 😉😂
Being by Manila Bay, The Conrad Manila feels like a resort....until you see the big IKEA behind it! 😅
Beautiful mountain peaks amidst the clouds on descent into MNL! Saw two BA A380s having maintenance works done at NAIA. I remember long time ago, MNL was an extension of their HKG flight.
My meal on JX785 today. Excellent as always! Beautifully presented and delicious too.
First time on Starlux's A321NEO. Comfy seats, but no privacy. Huge legroom, sharp screen and nice storage behind seat with various charging.
Back at Starlux's Galactic Lounge in T2 at TPE at 440am. First one there! Still looking fresh. Food order from QR code from 5am. Delicious spread. Some food items are not your usual breakfast food, like hotdogs and nachos, which, I remember, are there all day. Super courteous staff as always.
Delicious lunch on BR852. Full three course on a 1h22m flight. The breads were so good. Garlic bread was crusty on outside, soft on inside. The sesame roll was full of flavours. Good Ausyltralian pinot grigio to wash down the chicken dish.
