Read this as a distraction from finals. It’s good, though there’s not a crazy amount to chew on in terms of story unfortunately. Still enjoyed my time with it just for the art. Every character just has so much personality beaming off of them especially with some of the designs towards the end
Been blazing through GNs while at work recently! Took a bit to really grow on me but once it did it really hooked me. Very fun dynamic of homophobic gay men and centrist politics that make the main dynamic extremely entertaining. Plan to reread this so I can really pick away at the queer commentary
Another reminder of just how much I love Nagabe's work. The dynamic between these two is so hot I loooooove it. The textures in the lines are the designs are still top notch like all of Nagabe's work. Really just great all around especially for such a short read.
Slow day at work so I read through this during my shift. So fucking gorgeous! The textures and colors going on here are to die for, would kill to see some of the process pages for this. Left wanting a bit more from a topic so personal to me but definitely worth reading for the art alone
After a month of putting this down and picking it up again finally finished it today. Made the mistake of reading it in public so I had to pace around every chapter trying not to cry. Was very skeptical especially coming out of downfall but it’s left me thinking it’s a new favorite of mine
Sometimes you read what you can only describe as a masterpiece and just have to sit in it. Reread the last 20 or so chapters a few times and I'm still just shocked how successful this story is at basically everything. Feel I could write an essay about each chapter and still have more to say
Talked to my professor about this one and uhh lots of feelings here. Idk there is an argument for this being an actual critique of the modern manga industry but it feels so wrapped in the actual writers misogyny. Lots to just sit in but feelings are just not great on this. Anyways on to crossgame
Holy fuck this is it this is the one. Haven't read something so erotic and dirty and just beautiful like this. The intimacy between the Terumuchi and Omihiko is so so good, especially the last chapter. If I could point to any manga as an example of the work I want to make it would be this.
Definitely plan to reread this one but god just so much going on here. Its textures and its writing, I feel gross just thinking about it. Very few comics scratch the itch that Imitation Crystal is hitting here and its very welcome. Very nice to have an artist pushing the same buttons as Tsukumizu.
Found this at my school library and oh my god its so pretty!!!!! The art and the lines and the faces, just so much charm and love in such a tight one off manga! I'm so obsessed with the character designs and the weirdness of the writing. Like yeah man that octopus dream IS hot as fuck!!!
First reread of the year. Lots of complicated feelings on this one! Gearing up to write a much longer review but god if this was made by a trans person it would be so good. Trips into some of my favorite representation of the trans kid experience and then switches to the worst shit ever in a dime
Another recommendation from my professor! Aaaaa this ones so cute! The art is just so charming, it feels crazy how much it does emotions wise for something so visually simple. Honestly the most interesting part of this was the translator notes on the back. I should read up on manga history...
Read this one on a whim and holy shit! Early chapters are so strong. The way Makio frames emotion and loss in the early chapter is just so good especially considering where the story goes later on. It did start to lose me around volume 8 but the last volume is so strong that it made up for it.
Considering pt 2 it’s own series and I still loved it! Obviously has some flaws but the stuff they’re doing with Denjis character post Makima is so so good!!! Also absolutely love Asa and Yoru, both of their arcs are so fun and I ended up really loving where it went despite the ending
Aaa was a big one for me. Love love love part one so much. Knew I was going to like this series but it still just blew me away. After Reze ark I could put it down and I’m still thinking about the last few chapter of pt 1 non stop
Got through this one during spring break and I really loved it. I think at first I really only found it charming, but as more of the female cast got their time to shine I really fell for this story. Such a good love letter to both otaku culture but near the end dojinshi specifically.
Continuing with going through Urasawas work and absolutely loved this one. Each one is so creative with what its trying to do! and his art is so gorgeous and expressive!!!! He really has it all. Story's that stood out to me was "It's a Beautiful Day" and "Musica Nostra".
Got around to reading this one a few weeks ago and hoooooly shit its so good. Capture a lot of what Ive been feeling as a masc trans woman recently. Ended up blind sighted by a perfect retelling of my break up with my ex too! Definitely see myself rereading this one in the not too distant future.
Writing this fresh off of reading this one. Something about one volume manga just hit perfect for me, like a 10/10 2 hour movie. All of my time used perfectly with every page and panel just having me in awe. The grief instilled in every drawing of Shiinos face is gonna stick with me for a while.
First comic of the year! Pluto was sooooooo good was just constantly in awe of Urasawas art. The politics and general quality in character writing had me just so obsessed with this story. So so glad my professor got me interested in Urasawas work can’t want to start 20th Century Boys next
