I was just reading about Roosevelt and Frances Perkins losing the battle to make their minimum wage a living wage, in those words, with corporate Republicans and racist southern Democrats working together to fatally weaken the legislation. I doubt that language would fly with today's party leaders.

My obituary in the comments of a surprisingly equivocal WaPo obituary.

A lifelong fan of criminal wars and their consequent war crimes, and later of genocide as well, Mr. Graham was respected on both sides of the aisle. Despite having described the orange pustule in the starkest possible terms as unfit for office, Mr. Graham became one of the suppurating wound of a president's strongest supporters and most reliable allies. There he is, Graham probably thought, and here I am; may as well relax and enjoy it.

Nothing splashtacular, cropped but otherwise minimally processed, and for once not converted to monochrome because even though I can't see them as well as most people, I like the pretty colors.

I happened upon two guys surfing the Sada River estuary off the Sea of Japan one day, something I'd not seen the likes of before. These small but extremely energetic waves were rolling inland from the bay, and the water was cold enough to warrant a wet suit while the air temp was up around 100F.

I find the many small cemeteries dotting the Japanese countryside, some with as few as a half-dozen monuments or markers, some very old and some more recent, almost all well-maintained, to be quite poignant and—perhaps oddly, I don't know—reassuring.
