--Gotcha. How has the reaction been to Dragon Quarter since it released?

Ikehara: They seem to be enjoying it quite a bit. It seems to be confusing people who went in expecting a traditional RPG, however.

--So, a mixed reaction, then?

Ikehara: Well, before now, the BoF series was so focused on walking the conventional path that the response to the games were also straight down the line--for example, if four people were to score one of the previous games, the average scores would be 7/7/7/7. For this game, I really wanted to make something polarizing--like, 9/5/9/5--and so this game very intentionally has a lot of jagged edges.

--My impression after playing Breath of Fire III is that it's a very orthodox RPG. Was that something you deliberately intended?

Ikehara: It's more that we don't have the ability to make something strange or bizarre. (laughs)
