Walking through my neighborhood, I almost went right past the young eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) circled in the first picture; at that size, it's likely that they've only recently left the nest and become independent. #backyardnature
Here's an Asian lady beetle (Harmonia axyridis), but check its posterior. Those green filaments are parasitic "beetle hanger" fungi, Hesperomyces harmoniae. Transmitted only by prolonged physical contact, it's basically a species-specific STD. #entomology #backyardnature #mycology
I've been trying to capture one of these tiny #backyardnature visitors for a long time. It's a planthopper nymph, probably Acanalonia conica. The "fluffy butt" in the first picture is extruded wax that helps the nymph avoid predators and diffuse the sugar water it constantly expels. #entomology
More #backyardnature - here's the Baltimore snout moth (Hypena baltimoralis), the second Hypena species I've identified. They're native to the eastern USA, where their larvae feed on maple leaves. #entomology
I buried Discover and Popular With Friends all the way at the end of the list, which puts it at the far right of the feed list in everyday use...
Here's something a little different - the two-spotted tree cricket (Neoxabea bipunctata). The two "spots" on the forewings identify females; the males are spotless. They're native to North America. #backyardwildlife #backyardnature #entomology
One more from my visit to the US #Army Corps of #Engineers Museum at Fort Leonard Wood…back in the day, I drove one of these 13-ton M113A2 Armored Personnel Carriers… #Essayons
A deep-dive into the use of #cryptocurrency by BRICS Plus nations to evade G7 financial controls and sanctions...in my opinion, yet another argument for strong regulation. "Mapping the BRICS Plus Cryptocurrency Ecosystem" can be found on page 143 of the current issue of PRISM. buff.ly/kQYgozA
Just outside East St. Louis… Thanks, Trump, for the unnecessary war! Thanks, Republicans, for your blind loyalty to party over country! #gas #inflation
This tiny #backyardnature visitor is the peach tree weevil (Pseudoedophrys hilleri). They feed on the foliage of rosaceous plants (e.g. apples, pears, plums, peaches, roses, rowans, etc.) Native to Japan, it is an adventive species in the eastern US. #entomology #backyardwildlife #weevilwednesday

Hey, #Lexington #Kentucky folks - if your #Cadillac (or the Cadillac of someone you know) had unexplained damage in the 351 W Vine garage in the last two days, you might find this useful... (I didn't post the original, just spreading the word - apparently, the truck driver just drove away...)
The Ohio DNR has a wonderful series of free PDF field guides and "Backyard Wildlife" materials, covering everything from reptiles, lichens, moths and millipedes to trees, fish, mussels and wildflowers. #backyardnature #backyardwildlife buff.ly/CdCdhkC
We’ve lived here for 20+ years; I believe this is the first time I’ve seen a #frog on our property. #backyardnature #amphibian
I almost missed this one in nighttime viewing - it's a tiger bee fly (Xenox tigrinus). Native to eastern North America, it's named for the black pattern on its wings, which can resemble tiger stripes. #entomology #backyardnature

Cute callsign picked up over central Kentucky - RBI1 belongs to Major League Baseball ACES, LLC; you can see the small MLB logo to the right of the door. #adsb #planespotting
At first glance, one might think that this is a June beetle; however, a closer look finds the black spots characteristic of another member of family Scarabaeidae, the grapevine beetle (Pelidnota punctata). This scarab beetle is found throughout eastern North America. #entomology #backyardnature
Did you get a pandemic dog? If you did, quote post with a pic of your COVID-19 canine...here's Lucy:
Speaking as one who started playing #arcade games at their beginning (the first I remember playing was Midway's Gun Fight in 1975), there's a LOT of truth in today's Penny Arcade. #gaming #oldschool #retrogaming buff.ly/1VYqxij
It is exceptionally annoying to encounter recordings that do not allow manual advance and/or faster playback.
It's always interesting to spot 001 flights, because they're often "flagship" commercial routes or VIP flights. Here's SUI001 - Swiss Air Force 001 - spotted over central Kentucky, on its way from IAD (Washington DC) to SLC (Salt Lake City UT). #adsb #planespotting
