#Rust on alpine bistort (#Bistrorta vivipara) likely caused by #Puccinia bistortae, whose urediniospores are smaller than those of P. polygoni-vivipari (Eyne Valley, FR).
#Rust on cypress spurge (#Euphorbia cyparissias) likely caused by #Uromyces alpestris (Eyne Valley, FR).
Powdery #mildew on common cow-wheat (#Melampyrum pratense) likely caused by #Podosphaera phtheirospermi (Eyne Valley, FR).
#Rust on European blueberry (#Vaccinium myrtillus) caused by #Naohidemyces vaccinii (Eyne Valley, FR).
#Rust on mountain-ash (#Sorbus aucuparia) caused by #Gymnosporangium sp., likely G. cornutum or torminali-juniperini (Eyne Valley, FR).
#Rust on coltsfoot (#Tussilago farfara) caused by #Coleosporium tussilaginis (Eyne Valley, FR).
#Rust on alpine adenostyles (#Adenostyles alpina) caused by #Coleosporium cacaliae (Eyne Valley, FR).
Vacation science & chalet lab: mouflon head keeping quality control over my rust samples.
#Rust on black sedge (#Carex nigra) caused by #Puccinia caricina, perhaps P. caricina var. uliginosa (syn. Puccinia uliginosa) given the proximity of its aecial host (#Parnassia palustris 🔽), which was found infected nearby.
#Rust on marsh grass of Parnassus (#Parnassia palustris) caused by #Puccinia uliginosa — a somewhat aged specimen (Estany de Vallell, Carlit massif, FR). Another rarity 🤩 found here at the southern edge of its European range, a reminder of the glacial legacy of the #Pyrénées.
#Eriophyes alpestrisi, the rhododendron gall mite, on #Rhododendron ferrugineum, causing the leaves to roll upwards along the midrib and disrupting flower development (Estany de la Predella, massif du Carlit, FR). At first, I thought it might be a rust. Little disappointment! 😅
Exobasidium galls on alpenrose (#Rhododendron ferrugineus) caused by #Exobasidium rhododendri (Estany de la Predella, massif du Carlit, FR).

The recovery test from #Berberis vulgaris to the presumed primary host, #Arrhenatherum elatius, was also successful 🥰, confirming the id of the #rust as #Puccinia arrhenatheri: pustules appeared on the upper leaf face and were larger than those of P. graminis (30–34 × 26–28 µm).
