Just a man who drinks too much whisky.
Final of the #RareFindsWhisky set is a Mystery Islay 9yo (57.9%) Nose: Medicinal peat, smoked bacon, overripe stone fruit. Classic sherried Islay. Palate: Big peat, high abv, sweetness with water. Tasty, but maybe a bit one dimensional - hard to get past the peat and alcohol.
Dram 3 of the #RareFindsWhisky tasting. Deanston 14yo (57.3%) Nose: Savoury, BBQ burnt ends (meaty rather than smoky), sour cherries, red wine. Palate: Big on the alcohol. Fresh strawberries, sea air, leather, pepper. Changes with every sip. Finish: Strawberries last longest, vanilla.
#RareFindsWhisky dram 2 is Dalmunach 9yo (60.6%) Nose: Strawberry milk, vanilla, marzipan, chilli. Palate: Chewy mouthfeel. Oak, summer berries, toffee. Takes water well, brings out the marzipan and dampens the sweetness. Finish: Long and woody, almond lingers.
Dram 1 from #RareFindWhisky is the Blair Athol 12yo (56.1%) Nose: Popcorn, red wine cork, pear, toffee. Pretty complex. Palate: Rich and oily mouthfeel. Apples, buttery, pastry, vanilla. Like apple crumble and custard. Finish: Apples continue, mild oak, fairly short
I missed the #RareFindWhisky tasting the other night, so am catching up now. Looks like a great set.
From tree to glass. Made a caipirinha with the first lime from our tree, but it wasn't a particularly juicy lime and it had to be split between two. Still, delicious 😋
I really do need a better system for these. Emptied a cupboard and had some nice surprises, but they're all hidden.
A pair of German whiskies from a long weekend in Mannheim. I should have paid for checked luggage just so I could have brought back a full bottle or 2 of that Black Forest triple wood 🤤
Guess I need a beer to drink from my pexei-boi mug today. It gives you all the important manatee facts: marine mammal, herbivore, cute...
Nice lamp, that Signet bottle has a great colour for it. I've gone Lochlea for my latest.
Good weather. Good whisky. PX cask at 56.7% and it goes down very easy. The nose is just Christmas cake. The palate has loads of sweet tropical fruits, with a dried fruit finish that dissolves into oak (maybe a bit too woody at the very end).
A sad bottle kill last night ☹️ Loved this @glasgowdc.bsky.social #whisky from @nononsensewhisky.com We need another collaboration guys!
Woke up to a light dusting of snow in Cambridgeshire, which meant our cat could get out in the white stuff for the first time. She likes hunting her own paw prints 🐾
