The B.C. government is speeding up the extinction of #oldgrowth #forests. Five years ago, their own scientists identified the highest priority forests to protect, but logging continues today.
MaMu Day 2026 was a HUGE success. 50 people gathered to celebrate marbled murrelets on Pacheedaht territory. We were especially excited to be joined by our friends @specialbirdservice.bsky.social for this important trip. #oldgrowth #marbeledmurrelet
MaMu Day 2026 was a success! 50+ scientists, artists, birders, and Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones gathered to celebrate Marbled Murrelets — an at-risk seabird that needs old-growth forest to nest, and is losing it fast. Murre-licks, forest walks, birding and hope for a bird worth remembering. 🐦🌲
Parts of the Walbran-Carmanah valley have been blocked off to the public for a year now. When people can't get into these forests, they can't know them, and that makes it easier for industry to log what's left. #oldgrowth #bc Take action today: www.wildernesscommittee.org/take-action/...
Trip participants worked hard to maintain the busy hiking route. Returning to Maaqtusiis each night, we learned about the local ecosystem and the history of the Ahousaht, who have defended and stewarded these beautiful lands and waters since time immemorial. #oldgrowth
A team of a dozen volunteers worked hard to clear the dense rainforest undergrowth on the legendary Walk the Wildside Trail, which winds along the south shore of Flores Island in Clayoquot Sound, from the Ahousaht village of Maaqtusiis to the sprawling white sand beach of Cow Bay 🐚 #oldgrowth
We kicked off our 2026 trail building season on the last weekend in June, on the incredibly powerful territory of the Ahousaht 🌞 #clayoquotsound #oldgrowth #britishcolumbia
📽️ WATCH: Our team reports out from Fire Lake in Xa'xtsa Nation territory, where BC Timber Sales is clearcutting an old-growth forest designated as spotted owl critical habitat. #oldgrowth #britishcolumbia #logging
No surprise here: when we asked forest minister Ravi Parmar if he'd commit to protecting old-growth, his answer was "not at all." Two red cards: foul on caribou, foul on old-growth. #britishcolumbia #oldgrowth
On the 5-year anniversary of the #heatdome, we're joining the BC Heat Collaborative in remembrance, solidarity & commitment to protecting communities from future extreme heat events. Join us at Vancouver City Hall 1 PM Sunday June 28th to help ensure the right to safe temperatures for everyone 👇
Happy pollinator #PollinatorWeek! Here are our favourite pollinator facts: 🍓1/3 bites of food we eat exist because of pollinators 🍓Bees pollinate almost 75% of the vegetables, nuts and fruit in North America 🍓Creatures like birds and bats play important pollinator roles in various ecosystems
📍Naa’waya’sum Botanical Gardens (Tla-o-qui-aht territory) We had a fun week working with the staff at Naa’waya’sum to maintain their #oldgrowth forest trail near Tofino. We’ve worked with Tla-o-qui-aht for decades, and are always grateful for the opportunity to help support responsible tourism 🌞
For National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), we’re highlighting Cree advocate + artist and Clayton Thomas-Müller (Pukatawagan Cree Nation). He is working to keep oil & gas out of his home territory + supporting Nations around Churchill (MB) to do the same. #nipd 1/2 🧵

Old-growth forests in Ontario are in need of recognition and protection — for the climate, biodiversity and people. These rare ecosystems are carbon storehouses, habitat for wildlife and cultural touchstones that we cannot afford to lose. Read the report: WildernessCommittee.org/OntarioOldGrowth
We've been to caribou habitat, we've seen how the forest minister's disregard for these endangered animals is having an impact on the ground. We're not going to fact-check his claims because you already know that they're wrong. We're asking you take action instead: WildernessCommittee.org/Caribou
🚨URGENT 🚨BCTS is logging in spotted owl habitat. There is only one wild-born #spottedowl remaining in Canada. Please write to government leaders today and demand protection of these critical #forests: www.wildernesscommittee.org/take-action/bc-must-stop-logging-spotted-owl-critical-habitat
It is not often in our work to build a better world that we get such concrete victories as we saw in the fight to protect SELE₭TEȽ. It was great to gather with Goldstream Protectors + everyone who made this possible at SELE₭TEȽ 🐠 #nature #oldgrowth #salmon
It's nice to know that the people care about old-growth, even if Parmar does the opposite of what people want. We will persist ✊️ 2/2 🧵
Did you see Wednesday night’s banner drop? Ravi Parmar, the Minister of Forests, has been backtracking on old-growth protection but we know people care. Lots of cars were headed out to Langford, Parmar’s riding, and lots of cars were giving us honks and thumbs up. 1/2 🧵

Happy biodiversity day 🐦🌲🐝 Ecosystems are under attack. Canada promised to protect 30% of lands & waters by 2030, but progress has been slow. If you want to learn more about biodiversity, check out our report - www.wildernesscommittee.org/Protect30x30CanadaReport
Grade 10 students, from St. Michaels University School, are making an action plan for the environment. Last week we met them at SELE₭TEȽ (Goldstream) to talk about the importance of primary forests and different action tactics.
We’re building a community for old-growth 🌲 The reality of any fight is that you can’t do it alone. And we don’t want you to have to advocate for old-grown by yourself. What are you waiting for? DM us to get involved! Or visit: www.wildernesscommittee.org/form/organize-for-old-growth-non-sign
