Cross stitch done on 14 count Aida. The color is Tempest, described as light aqua-green with blue and yellow-green splashes.

Vanguard Kitty from Space Nona Stitchery on Etsy. This is based on the Atari 2600 version of Vanguard. #cats #crossstitch #videogames #Atari2600

Cross stitch done on dark gray Aida cloth. It is a rendition of the Atari 2600 version of Vanguard but with flying gray cats instead of spaceships.

At the top there are 3 rows of blue stitches extending the length of the cross-stitch. Underneath are 2 smaller stacks with gradually smaller rows. The colors are darker blue, indigo, violet, magenta and red.

In the center of the image is a small yellow spaceship that has fired a shot (small line of yellow). There are 3 light gray cats flying from left to right, one above the spaceship and the others are on the left and right.

Underneath the cats are gradually larger colorful rows, starting as 4 peaks but gradually becoming one at the bottom. On one of the peaks on the right side is a gray block with an E in the middle. The colors starting from the top are magenta, red, light orange, dark orange, bright yellow and orange. This last row is where they all meet and become one solid line.

Under that is a single row of black, a double row of red-orange, and then 10 rows of black. In the middle of this last black row on the left are 3 orange star shapes and on the right are the numbers 999.

The card is mostly in monochrome shades of white, gray and black although the bed coverings look slightly yellowed. Taking up most of the postcard is a large bed with a metal frame. At the head of the bed you can just see the slightly arched upper portion. At the foot of the bed you can see that there is what looks like a metal railing below the arched upper portion. The bed is made up with a comforter with a ruffle on the bottom, a slightly darker stripe going down the middle and it looks like it's quilted. The top portion is neatly folded back. There are 2 large pillows set up against the head of the bed. There are partial post marks on each pillow. Tucked into the bed in the middle of the pillows you can see the head and a little bit of the shoulders of a black cat. Its eyes are open. The background is the wall of the bedroom which is a dark gray. In the upper left corner is a green postage stamp, upside down. At the top of the stamp are the words REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE. On the lower left is the monetary amount of the stamp, 5¢. On the lower right is the word POSTES. There is a figure in the middle of the stamp, a woman wearing flowing garments, a head covering, and carrying a jar in one hand. She looks like she's striding forward. At the bottom of the card, in fancy script, are the words Porte Veine.

Thank you for your correspondence of 17 March about the former Chief Mouser to FCDO, Palmerston. The Parliamentary Correspondence Team in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has been asked to reply.

After retiring from Whitehall in 2020, he returned to the spotlight to join the new Governor of Bermuda in February 2025 as "Feline Relations Consultant"

Sadly, Palmerston, the FCDO's feline diplomat and former Battersea Cats and Dogs Home resident, passed away on 12 February 2026 at his semi-retirement post in Bermuda.

At the time of writing, the position of Chief Mouser at the FCDO remains vacant.

Sepia-toned photograph of 2 women framed in an oval vignette. Mrs. Craik, the woman on the right, is seated and holding a tabby and white cat. She appears to be wearing something dark and ruffled on her head. Her hair is gathered low and parted in the middle. She has a shawl or blanket over her top half. The skirt of her gown appears to be white or at least light colored.

She has a companion who is standing on the left side of the photo. The dress is checkered with a lace collar that has points and sleeves that are loose and voluminous. The sleeves have 3 layers, the shoulder part of the bodice and 2 levels of sleeve. There is black? fur trim on each "level." There is also black piping on the front of the dress on either side. Also on the front of the dress is some kind of flat lacy insert or ribbon that comes to a point. Her hair is also gathered low and parted in the middle. She has an arm around Mrs. Craik's shoulders and the hand of the other arm is on the front of Mrs. Craik's shoulder. She is very slightly bent forward.

Same subjects as the other photo and also titled Mrs. Craik Holding Cat c. 1858. The subjects have changed place, somewhat. Mrs. Craik is sitting up straighter. It is still unclear what might be on her head but possibly it's a hood from a shawl. It appears to be ruffled. Her dress collar is white and has piercings, not like lace but like some kind of decorative effect. She is still holding the cat securely with both arms. You can see a ring on her left 4th finger. She is looking down at the cat.

Her companion now has one hand on Mrs. Craik's shoulder but she has changed position so she is standing sideways although she has turned her head and is looking straight at the camera. Both wrists have snug black bracelets that look as if they are made of diamond-shaped plaques linked together. You can see that underneath her voluminous outer dress sleeve there is an inner white sleeve with lacy points just peeking out.

The cat has clearly tired of this session as, unlike the previous photo, he now has 2 heads, one looking off to the side and the other looking more or less straight at the camera, due to moving at some point during the photographic process.

Vintage Easter card with 3 brown tabby cats with white undersides. One is on the ground on the right in a loose meatloaf position. The other two are standing on a basket that is on its side on the ground, and have their front feet on a large pink egg that is on its side. The egg has gold decorative elements on top and bottom, has Easter Greetings printed on it and a large crack through the middle. Top left postcard: Left half has the word VOTE in black with the VO on top and TE on the bottom. The background is pastel splashes of pink, purple and green. The right half is covered by another postcard to obscure the address.

Top right postcard: Full coverage picture of 5 antique style seed packets of various flower types. On top in a fancy font in white is: "Voting is planting". On the bottom in the same font and color is: "Seeds for Democracy". The artist's initials, MH, are in the bottom right corner. The background is a dark mottled blue.

The message on both styles of card is the same:

Cross stitch done on black 18 count Aida. Image is of a large mushroom with an eye in the middle. There are colored splotches on the mushroom top, the stalk has multicolored bands and the gills underneath are also multicolored.

There is a small butterfly to the right.

On the ground to either side of the mushroom are some grass-like plants, the ones on the left are taller. The ground appears to have drip marks falling towards the bottom. Above the mushroom are the words EAT ME in a 1970s kind of bubbly font.

Everything is done in a bright rainbow gradient. It all looks very psychedelic.

Panel 9: FINALLY, PLACE SOME GORGEOUS BOTANICAL MOTIF TO EMPHASIZE THE CONTRAST IN QUALITY AND DEGREES OF TERROR. On both sides of the cat there are now green leafy squiggles and red flowers each with four pointy petals. A medieval illuminator would be proud of this!
