Photonics researcher, particularly nanofab and optical measurement system design, for visible, UV and THz metamaterials, biomimetic nanostructures and strong coupling in photonics. I also like lots of sports and get annoyed by politicians...
In that case, here's another, from my garden a couple of days ago.
I think that's a rapid onset LD50 rather than enough to cause liver failure, the pic is from the wiki. It's a surprisingly dangerous drug, if you take too much! 10g is not much more than a lemsip, 2 tablets and a big gulp Which I know is boring lots of people, but I think is worth flagging
One big problem I'd not realised until recently is close packed terrace housing, see pic. You have row after row of houses separated by a narrow road on the front and 21m on the back. Pump hot air into that on a still day from each house, you'll send local temps soaring. Not sure a fix; chimneys?
Hey @xkcd.com don't know if you already know this; you can no longer read the alt text on chrome on android (maybe elsewhere!) if it's longer than a few words. You used to be able to tap on the text and it would be fully readable, but that no longer works. Just FYI. A v very happy new year!
This cartoon does the rounds, but it's pretty good at capturing what you're describing. Except, of course, here the left hand person isn't gleefully skipping rightwards.
Here was me and some colleagues at a UCU strike a few years ago in the UK. Hope you have a great day!
The side on view of the offside isn't what I'd call conclusive, mind
A fun little picture from the lab today; looking at FIBbed lattices on a @thorlabs.bsky.social USB camera for spectrometer alignment. One of an array I made, mostly line gratings but with one set 2D. Was pretty sure I had orientation right, but easy to get turned around, the reflected spot helped! 🧪
