I am grateful to become the new chair of FISS – the Foundation for International Studies on Social Security. 🙏 I'm succeeding Bea Cantillon; big shoes to fill. Our aim remains unchanged: create a venue where scholars from across the globe meet in an atmosphere that fosters a sense of community.

This also has implications for measuring poverty. The poverty risk of single parents is often overestimated when the Eurostat household typology is adopted. When single parents co-residing with kin or unrelated adults are correctly identified, their average poverty risk tends to be much lower. /6
E.g. the FHT reduces the share of individuals placed in the residual ‘other’ category from over 20% to around 5%, particularly improving identification in Southern, Central, and Eastern European countries where multigenerational living arrangements are common. /4
🚨NEW PUBLICATION 🚨Household typologies in European surveys are biased against the reality of families in Southern and Eastern European countries. They mainly reflect family types that are more common in North-Western countries. This is problematic for European statistics, research and policy. 🧵

Die inschatting is opnieuw niet zomaar vergelijkbaar, maar wel met recentere data. Zij schatten bijvoorbeeld voor Vlaanderen dat 10% naar de ziekteverzekering zal doorschuiven. Dat zal een onderschatting zijn, want inschakelingsuitkering betrof vooral jongere doelgroep. /6
