SAVE THE DATE: on Saturday 15th August we’re taking our Level 3 Ride & Bike Kitchen repairs to #Windsor&EtonBrewery to make way for #SwanFest. We’ll have a refurb #bike sale while we’re there. Our new repair stand will still be at @theswanclewer.bsky.social for DIY bike fixes.
On Saturday it’s a s-l-o-w 🐌 Easy Level 1 Guided Ride from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11am. 7 car free miles to #HerschelPark 🔭 Slough via #Eton (last chance to ride part of the route). Sad news about Kevin Keegan RIP. His infamous bike crash took place at Bracknell Sports Centre, 50 years ago. One of us saw it happen &, if you’re really unlucky, they might tell you all about it.
What we do at #WindsorCycleHub is made possible by our #volunteers & friends. It also helps that #cycling is the best hobby, & way to get, around! 3/3
Cycling’s something everyone can enjoy - no matter how old you are. Got a bike, not riding it as much as you’d like? Come & see us at @theswanclewer.bsky.social on Saturdays from 11am. 2/3
Today was #PedalThePark 2 - our 2nd big ride for all ages from #StagMeadow up to #WindsorGreatPark village. Perfect weather 🌞, not too hot & a breeze. Lots of different types of bikes & people - excellent! 1/3
ICYMI, this Sunday we're Pedalling to Windsor Great Park from Stag Meadow, starting at 10:30 (then 11:00 & 12:00). That means we won't be at The Swan on Saturday for Bike Kitchen Repairs or a Guided Ride. This is so we can prepare for this exciting event 👇, which you can book here: bit.ly/49VSkq2
Due to the ongoing #heatwave, we had a shorter, slower & more shaded ride than usual today. We also remembered to take regular #HydrationBreaks. Next Saturday there’s no WCH at @theswanclewer.bsky.social, as we’re Pedalling To The Park instead on Sunday 19th see 👇
The Summerleaze bridge & the Jubilee River barriers again. We often help people on non standard bikes get past both. It’s crazy that some people have to rely on others to navigate the #NationalCyclingNetwork
On Saturday it’s a moderate Level 2 #GuidedRide from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11. Due to the #HeatWave, it's a short/shaded route. Please wear sunscreen, light clothes & bring 2 drinks. If it hits 30º, we'll cancel. Please book the ride by Friday PM, same link for bike repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
We had feedback from a couple of visitors that today’s ride was a little slow. Our ‘Easy Level 1’ ride is our slowest. It’s an accessible ride for people getting back into, or new to, cycling. The speed, distance & hilliness increases each week with each Level. So, there’s a ride for everyone. See👇
Today’s easy Level 1 ride took us over to #UptonCourtPark* in Slough via #EtonCollege. A massive park with really good #CyclePaths & a great view of #WindsorCastle. Back next week for a moderate Level 2 ride - heat permitting! *Home of the legendary #SloughMusicFestival
On Saturday it’s an Easy Level 1 Guided Ride from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11am. 7.5 car free miles to #UptonCourtPark, Slough. Still quite hot, so don’t forget a drink & sunscreen! Please book the ride by Friday PM to be sure of a place. Same link to book Bike Kitchen repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
Keeping Sunday 19th July free to join #PedalToThePark 2? It's a fun bike ride for all ages. Our 'Bike Buses' leave Stag Meadow from 1030 to whisk you up there. Bring a picnic to enjoy on the village green, where we'll have fun bike challenges & more rides. More details 👇, book here: bit.ly/49VSkq2
Today’s Level 4 ride was cut short due to the heat* 🥵. Despite that, our hardy riders enjoyed some shady tracks & possibly managed to get a bungee jump in. *Always check your email if you’ve booked a ride in extreme weather - as we use it to advise changes/cancellations for safety etc.
Save the date: Sunday 19th July for #PedalToThePark 2. A ride for all ages to Windsor Great Park, for a picnic & fun bike stuff by the village green. Watch this space for more info in the coming weeks.
Today’s Level 3 ride took us up to #WindsorGreatPark, so we could say farewell to the totem pole. We were up to full capacity with riders (a good thing), so a polite reminder to book by Friday afternoon to be sure of a place - esp. in spring/summer. Back next week for a Level 4 to #WarrenRow.
Sorry, today’s Level 3 ride to Windsor Great Park is full. So please consider having your bike checked over if you didn’t get a place. During spring/summer our rides fill up quickly - so as Fred Pontin used to say “Book early!”
On Saturday it’s an Intermediate Level 3 Guided Ride, for more experienced cyclists, from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11am. A 16 mile loop out to Windsor Great Park. Please book the ride by Friday afternoon to be sure of a place. Same link to book Bike Kitchen repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
At our favourite #bike shop/cafe in the #NewForest (indeed, pretty much anywhere): Woods Cyclery. Enjoying a great soundtrack & damn fine coffee. If you’re ever in #Lyndhurst do drop in.
What a great day for a Level 2 ride. This week it was over towards Chippenham & Dorney. Shame about that terrible bridge over the Thames from Monkey Island. Fortunately, we had enough people to help our disabled friend get over the barriers. Back next week for a Level 3 to WGP.
On Saturday it’s a Moderate Level 2 Guided Ride, for newer cyclists, from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11am. A low traffic 12 miles around the Jubilee River, Chippenham & Dorney. Please book the ride by Friday morning, to be sure of a place. Same link to book Bike Kitchen repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
We recognise that last picture - it’s got to be the Summerleaze bridge over the Thames between Bray & Dorney. We’ve tried very hard to get those barriers removed. Ditto the other ones along the Jubilee River path.
We’re inundated with parakeets around here. They strip trees of fruit & empty bird feeders - but they leave cars well alone.
Ah, Superstars - that brings back memories. Specifically of Kevin Keegan’s crash at Bracknell Sports Centre the same year. Riding bikes on a running track was never a great idea.
A few showers 🌧️ didn’t put us off today’s Level 1 ride through Eton 📚the Jubilee River & on towards Dorney 🐄. Our ride leader gave us a full briefing on the lovely St Mary Magdalene church in Boveney. Back next week for a longer Level 2 ride.
On Saturday it’s an Easy Level 1 Guided Ride, for inexperienced cyclists & families, from @theswanclewer.bsky.social at 11am. A low traffic 8 miles around Dorney/Jubilee River. Please book the ride by Friday afternoon, to be sure of a place. Same link to book Bike Kitchen repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
Today at #Windsor #CycleHub it was all about sharing skills. Knowing how to fix your own bike is essential, especially if you’re riding on your own. Our Bike Kitchen volunteers also took care of some slightly more complicated repairs. Back at @theswanclewer.bsky.social next Saturday at 11am.
It’s time for new #skillz this 5th Saturday from 11am at @theswanclewer.bsky.social, with: 1. Using our Routes library/GPX files to plan your own rides. 2. Riding through tight gaps etc. for L1/L2. 3. Removing stubborn tyres to fix punctures. Same link to book Bike Kitchen repairs: bit.ly/49VSkq2
