In the 1940’s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute. payhip.com/b/TqQL1

On 6 December 2023, Alareer was killed by an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza, along with his brother, sister, and four of his nephews, during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip. This was his final poem.

Inspired by Refaat Alareer and the resilient people of Palestine, this perfume draws from the rich heritage of their land's crops. Palestinian agriculture, a crucial part of the economy, faces severe constraints in land, water, and market access due to Israeli limitations. Since 1967, these restrictions have drastically reduced agricultural production. Only 6% of Palestinian-cultivated West Bank land is irrigated, compared to 70% of Jewish settler-cultivated land.

Our interconnectedness demands collective freedom. Defending Zionism or ignoring the plight of Palestinians perpetuates systemic oppression. Critiquing Zionism is not antisemitic; it is a stance against a political ideology that has led to an apartheid state favoring Jewish rights over those of Palestinians, who have lived in the region long before Israel’s establishment post-World War II.

All proceeds will be donated to Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid), a nonprofit organization with no political or religious affiliation. Anera works on the ground with partners in Palestine (West Bank and Gaza), Lebanon, and Jordan to address the development and relief needs of refugees and vulnerable communities.

May this perfume bring back love for the people of Palestine, stand as a testament to their enduring spirit, and foster solidarity with their cause.

Fragrance Story: When you listen to the lyrics in “Waiting for the Flood” on their 1987 release Earth, Sun, and Moon, you’ll hear the lyric “searching for the purest blue.” This line reappears in its own right as a song on their 1989 eponymous LP. This reincarnation of the lyric as a song is diffusive, sometimes sharp, and all the while mellifluous. It’s how I would also describe a true sandalwood from the Mysore district of Karnataka in India. If you truly love the scent of sandalwood, this fragrance will not disappoint.

The greatest thing she ever said to me was in 1943 after the opening of Oklahoma!, when I suddenly had unexpected, flamboyant success for a work I thought was only fairly good, after years of neglect for work I thought was fine.

I was bewildered and worried that my entire scale of values was untrustworthy. I talked to Martha. I remember the conversation well. It was in a Schraff’s restaurant over a soda. I confessed that I had a burning desire to be excellent but no faith that I could be.

Martha said to me, very quietly, “There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, the expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exsist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. As for you Agnes, you have a peculiar and unusual gift, and you have so far used about one-third of your talent.”
